Hey Guys,
I haven't posted here in a while... Regardless, I have been working on an attempt at a color wheel, to be used as a universal painting palette, that represents 3 dimensional color (HSV) in 2d. I came up with the following solution. It is a work in progress, and I would like to get people's feedback on it's practicality and whether or not it is of any use, and I am certainly open to suggestions. The idea is a single image that allows for single click selection of as many colors as possible. Let me know what you guys think.

Well, on one side I like the presence of grayscale in the palette, but one must be pretty precise to pick up the white color.
Are you sure there's any need in any kind of new HSV model representation? I mean the PS HSV sliders completely cover the needs. I wish only it could be bigger sometimes. |

I think it's not very practical. To choose colors and values precisely you have to compare them (or control them through sliders/numbers etc.). And here all the transitions are soft which makes it extremely hard to say what color exactly you are picking.
Or, maybe it's more practical than I think?
It seems that this HSV representation doesn't contain all the values. Only 5 levels? Far from enough. Probably you can't put all the colors and values in one picture At least in a compact picture. |
