Ah, that's the paw from its other leg. The dog sometimes stands in this position, with one raised and curled under.

very nice as usual! long time, no post eh? 
one thing that i would love to see in your ink sketches, is some touches of white for highlights(perhaps gouache with a fine brush?), it gives such a nice depth effect on toned paper..
here's an example of what i'm babbling about (by alphonse mucha)

Hey Socar, I've been away from the forums for years and it's great to see you still posting fantastic art.
