This was done for the Conceptart.org annual Last Man Standing 3 challenge. I had originally submitted it a few weeks ago before the competition deadline got bumped back so it was displayed prematurely (whoops). So when that happened, I decided to take the opportunity to work back into it and I'm really glad that I did.
The competition theme was simply "Underneath it All." I've been into all the great pulp comics (like Doc Savage, Hellboy, the old Captain America, ect.) and the old H. P. Lovecraft horror anthologies lately so I decided to mix the two. So... Clandestine Nazi seamonsters seemed like a fun no brainer. As WWII raged on the surface of the Atlantic, a secret battle was being waged 'underneath it all...'
Any and all feedback is appreciated.
Peace.

Well I like it quite a bit. The thing bothering me though, is the fact that it doesnt look like it's happening underwater. Could be the colorpalette or just the lighting and clear viewage, not really sure what to fix to make this better.
I'm obviously the wrong man to give you tips though, as I am a nubi.
Thanks for sharing! Was a pleasure to see
* Just wanted to add that I love the idea behind the piece! |

Woah nelly!
Great job there.
I agree with lakka, increased volumetric light and lost edges could help to reduce visibility and increase wateryness. For example background details in dimly lit areas do not need clear edges - these areas can be lost to a watery depth haze. Also different kinds of bubbles could help - tiny fog of bubbles created by sudden movement, big wobbly bubbles rising to surface, etc. |

Another this, the lightsources is mainly located on the frontside of the creature (unless close to the surface, the sea is pitch dark). Basically it should project shadows upon the ship, which in turn probably would make it look even more scary.
Also, it could help show the water fog (volumeric light). |
