Total beginner???!!! lol this is awesome. The real big complaint I have is you need more contrast. Use a very dark blue and add more shadows to the piece. That door / cave entrance should be darker as well unless there is light emitting from within.
I hope this helps Alex good luck! _________________ Truth is the essence of life, if that truth flows freely from you then why do so many choose to ignore it? --me |

Looks fantastic. Don't fool yourself, you're not a "total beginner"
I love the colors and light. You manage to have a somewhat "loose" style but still include a lot of texture. I think the grasses helped a lot with that.
If I were to nitpick (since you're looking for comments), I would have to say that I don't have a specific sense of scale or connection to the real-world since there aren't any critters or people, etc. I don't know of the trees are sky-high or if the boulders are bigger than a man or just waist-high. I suppose I could infer that the steps leading to the entrance are of human-scale, but I think something else added to the painting that the viewer can relate to in real-world terms would really help dial in the scale.
Overall a great image, however. Thank you for sharing! |
