To put things simply... I was in the same boat as you for a long time. Basically the only art I did that I liked was stuff I copied out of manga books.
The process to develop artistically will involve lots more practice and drawing from life... and probably not so much copying these types of images. You can respond however you want, but I've been there, and (I think) broken out of it, and it's not as fun or easy as drawing manga but the rewards are worth it if you'll practice.
So practice drawing from life and improve, because copying manga is fun for a while but it dries up and you won't develop as an artist. |

I have to stick with what I said before... Working from cartoons at this stage is really an exercise in futility. It's probably fun for you, the importance of which can't be overstated, but as for artistic development I don't see you gleaning much from these. They look like reproductions of the originals, but without the anatomical foundations or illustrative prowess. You're skipping steps, kind of like writing an opera before learning to read music. Definitely keep doing these if you enjoy them, because it's part of maintaining a healthy psyche to do what you love, but to progress artistically start with the basics. Draw from life, copy anatomy until you don't even have to think about it, and practice practice practice practice practice.
I feel I should mention I haven't mastered any of these things but I'm pretty sure I'd be a lot better if I did. |

i didn't get paid for these pictures but i did get paid to draw other
anime-like characters. the reason they asked me to draw art for them is because they saw these very pictures you are looking at. _________________ MY LIFE IS CREATION |
