This is the first time I put my artwork is on the web.
I really didn't like my "dragon" picture that much so I took it off. _________________ MY LIFE IS CREATION

Hey Inuyasha girl,
Do you draw with a wacom tablet or a mouse? I think for your drawings the colors/contrast are pretty much similar which causes it to lose form. Maybe when you use paint, try to boost up the contrast a little bit while using that lasso tool and filling it in with the paint bucket (or if you use the paint brush just paint it with higher contrast). Maybe you could even look at finalized anime posters to find what the artist do. Sometimes I know they lack contrast but i think exaggerating things sometimes makes them look better. As for the dragon maybe you could figure out a way to make the fire look more three dimensional instead of making the dragon card-board like and the fire is just a piece of paper put behind the dragon. It's really tough to do these illusions but keep trying and im sure you'll get there. Good luck! keep posting. Dont get discouraged. |

Are these pictures better than the ones that I had on here before?
I like them better anyway.
Thank you for any advice that you can give me. ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) _________________ MY LIFE IS CREATION |

Firstly, I recommend you don't use cartoons as reference. It's hard to gauge your skill when you're mimicking the linework of someone else, and it also rarely turns out that interesting. Case in point, your Futurama guy and Link illustrations look remarkably like the originals - but what more can I say aside from that? Secondly, I'd try working from life or from photo reference to work out your anatomy, as there are some issues to address in the first one up there. Basically, you're going to end up reinforcing some really bad habits by producing too many of these, if you start with the basics you're going to find the end results much more satisfying. |

can you tell me what I should do to the first picture to make it better?
what in your opinion would you say is wrong with it?
you're advice is most helpful. Out of these three which one do you like more. If you really don't like any of them then that's ok, too. _________________ MY LIFE IS CREATION |

Hey Inuyasha,
I think Tinusch is right. maybe you should work from photos or life because it does help you increase your knowledge. Moreover I think you need to work off of cartoons, just like what Tinusch said again.
I do think that the 2nd picture is the best, but it still has anatomical issues. If you work it out and stuff, it'll help a lot. Try to check out other peoples sketches and stuff, maybe you could learn a little bit and see what they do. hope this helps. |

Could you please elaborate on what you said about working off of cartoons.
Should I reference them when I draw? or did you mean something else. _________________ MY LIFE IS CREATION |

well, you could use them for stylistic reference if you wanted, but really, you should aim for a fundamental understanding of the forms upon which the cartoonist's particular stylistic language is based, so that you can gain the greatest freedom to create your own original material.
The links I provided contain what you need. Loomis is a great link I've provided, among others, but Bridgeman, Vilppu and Hogarth know whats going on as well, so any of their books would be a great place to start in understanding drawing and the figure.
Alternativly, here's an abreviated but excellent tutorial by EM Geist, who has recently posted in sijuns own figure drawing thread. You have to regester, then scroll to the bottom of this link:
http://www.tsofa.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=425
There's about 10 or so pages that provide an abbrevieated but, imo, quality intro to the figure. They start as white sheets in the 10:26 am post, most of the way down the thread. |

The Inuyasha (2nd picture) and elfen girl (3rd picture) came out better then I expected. I drew them with MS paint. _________________ MY LIFE IS CREATION |
