This painting was inspired by a scene in the movie The Omen (original version), where Gregory Peck goes to a cemetery to uncover his sons past. I really love this scene because of the fantastic set they built and the mood they achieved. There is just something about 70s/80s horror movies, like The Fog and The Exorcist for example, that got lost in todays horror flicks. Its probably because they remind me of my youth when I watched them on TV late at night together with my brother, and those moments hold a dear place in my heart. Pretty corny, I know, but that is how I feel. Anyway
Another aspect of this painting, which came to me later on in the painting process, is that I have been probably influenced by the beautiful environments portrayed in the game The Monkey Island (both I and II). Its probably because of the colours and the theatrical composition of the elements. So here goes another homage.
Regarding the title, I wanted it to be quite suggestive of what was going on in this scene, without revealing everything and leaving some room for the viewers imagination. It has a II because I have another painting in my portfolio with the same title in a similar macabre context.
Below, I put up a link to screencaptures of The Omen so you can see where I drew my inspiration from. I also added a few details and a step by step process. The painting was done entirely in Photoshop and took me about 12-14 hours to complete. I hope you like it and perhaps some of you will relate to it the way I do.
PS On some monitors the image may look too dark, unfortunately.

Looks great on this screen, the lighting is incredible. You might try playing with the shape and scale of one of those 2 trees, I think the near symmetry of them really hurts the composition. Otherwise, awesome. _________________ artpad.org |

really cool, nice to see something more finished from you! i agree about the trees, they are quite distracting from an otherwise great pic. |

Thanks guys...
Cicinimo - that really means a lot coming from you. I really admire your work. Thanks!
Notic - you can see more finished stuff at my homepage, if you are interested. I have to get back to speedpainting, though...
iandredd - thanks...the first sketch is always the most spontaneous one, and sometimes difficult to keep. |

the jagged rocks work better than the church.. more disturbing. Like broken teeth on top of the hill. Great image though. |
