Ok guys, Ive decided to go ahead and buy a Wacom tablet very soon. I've been considering either an A4 or A5 sized Intuos. Ive found a supplier of the A5 version selling them at just the right price for me atm @ 275 (UKP).

I mean, the price is right, but how about the size? Does anyone feel that A5 's are crippling in anywayor are they just as usable as an A4?

Also, I have the option of either a USB, or serial port version. Are there any differences in performance between the two?

Any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated and helpful!

Bigger is not better ... I always liked the 6x8 the best - they are nowadays really precise and don't take up too much space on your desk. Bigger tablets tire out your arms too soon. Usually people use 'em for CAD applications with a 4D mouse - so they can put plans under the mouse and scan them in like that ...
And get a USB-tablet - the data throughput is excellent > means better feedback/quicker brush ...

I like my tablet tiny so that I can keep it on my lap like a drawing pad. Which is why I still have my 5-year old Artpad II, even though its surface is getting horribly worn out in some spots

ummm lesee, bigger is better. but there's no real improvement in functionality except for space.
if you're a regular artist type and you draw on large bits of paper etc you might have a hard time going to a small tablet.
if you're a former mouse-er the small one should do you ok for the moment, but a bigger one will be desired eventually (become rich and famous and then buy one the size of a door to impress chicks with or something).

if you have usb ports on your comp get the usb version. it's a faster kind of port and its powered to boot, so no extra power cable (I think, check that for yourself; usb does have a small power supply, I just dunno if its enough to run a tablet)

I personally prefer the A5 as it fits ever so nicely on my desk! and it fits my purse too
But as Muzman states, if you're used to drawing with large arm movements the A4 might be for you.

I'm a former mouse-abuser so I'm pretty content with the A5.
The A4 is just to much for me to handle with my scrawny arm

I would say go for the bigger one if you can afford it.

If your' arm getting tired because of the bigger drawing area, you always have the option to use a smaller portion of the tablet. It's pretty hard to go the other way...
