I couldn't figure out a dodging pose so he's just going preparing for what's to come.
This is my first painting that I'm really, truely, trying to detail and finish, but I don't want to rush it.
So any C&C would be really nice.
I know I need to fix... pretty much every aspect of the piece, the main things that are worrying me are:
1) how to make the raptor look more natural in both color and pose,
2) how to fix the hand and make it more realistic,
3) how to make the armor not look so cell shaded,
4) and how to paint leaves and gigantic trees.
it's all still pretty rough... which is all that I know how to do. Again, C&C kudasai! |

the pose of the raptor looks weird to me. Not only do they have small arms, the anatomy of the legs arent in proportion nor do they foreshorten in space that shows a strong silhouette. Id play around the design of its silhouette. I also feel that if the light was shining directly above, that the leaves and raptor would be in shadow with strong highlights. As for the samurai, fix the hand. If hes about to prepare for an attack, i dont quite think he would let go of his sword. At the moment it looks like he's about to drop it. Also check how the hand connects to the arm, at the moment it looks too straight.
Compositionally i like the samurai, i like the raptor, but the two identical trees side by side are so boring! I'd either erase those 2 and add like 6 trees that are similar but not the same. But not 2 that are almost mirror images of each other. |

Yeah, raptor pose isn't nailed yet. And the position of sam's left foot kinda throws out the perspective of the trees. Or something. There's something odd there. _________________ Art Links Archive -- Artists and Tutorials |

Thanks guys. I tried a couple things with the hand but I couldn't figure anything out. And I hope the raptor doesn't look so bad now. I put a couple of texture layers in but I don't think I know what I'm doing, haha.
As for the trees, I wanted to convey the sense of massiveness (b/c the trees were suppose to be giant!) so I'm sticking with two, as opposed to five or six normal sized looking trees. But thanks for the C&C! I think it really helped me

This picture is Great! The raptor is alive - Dont touch it! Not to mention how the hand connects to the arm - Its perfect as it is. With the flaws. Personality. Interpretation. You know. To describe something in new way often make people worry about conformity. By the way - I love that he is dropping his sword -
Probaly s**t-scared!
2 big trees really was the right choice.
All A+
Id say one of the better renderings Ive witnessed.
Carry on!

The trees are a bit too close for it to be realistic. Other than that its great. Maybe you can have his wrist a bit bent so that the angle of the underarm and hand differs. That could make it easier to see whats going on there. |

yes: Don't try to hijack other people's threads, for instance.
The raptor's feet look odd turned sideways like that, omi. And if you could draw it in a less frontal view, it would perhaps look better...perhaps a 3/4 view?
Weird concept hehe. _________________ It's nice to be important, but more important to be nice - Scooter |

sorry I didn't tried to "hijack" this thread...
I just saw that here we're talking about raptors....and I drew some of 'em so I'm looking for advices, it should be the right place I think.
Anyway, thanks for the advice!
