People are calling around to all the stores. The stores tell when they know they will have them in. Like Target this last sunday and Walmart yesterday. Then a small number of people get in line at 3-4am, maybe just 15-20, the stores open around 8am. Stores like Target give out tickets at 7am.
Then I show up at the store at 5 minutes after opening time and am told they are sold out because they only got in 10 machines. So some poor souls get frozen for 4 hours and get nothing.
Eventually the madness will stop.
I have talked with people who have played it and they really like it.
I did buy a Zelda game on the first day because I didnt want to have a console and nothing to play But they seem to have plenty of games in stock. |

EU Launch is tomorrow. Got one reserved at the local store, but they didnt know what else they get in. High probability I end up with Wii Play and Zelda. |

Just packed it up again. Because it is no fun you say? Hell no, I cried bitter tears, but it's supposed to lie under the christmas tree and I just tested if everything is ok.
From the bit I tried I can say I will have a hard 16 days of waiting, very very hard. Been a ton of fun already and I only played Wii Sports alone a tiny while. I'll be sure to get a second remote until Christmas with Wii Play and hope to also score Zelda and then the fun will be endless. I expected it to be nice and all, but it's really awesome. If it stays like this and gets more games over it's lifespan that really use those new controls well, it's gonna be a funfest extraordinaire.
Damn glad I reserved it in time, because our local store got 2 and the other one was reserved too already. Hope they get in Wii Play and Zelda before Christmas too. |

Good to hear that you got one, Horstman. I am jealous, because it's exactly like Tzan described here in America, except a little worse. For sure, there are a lot of diehard gamers freezing their butts off for a chance to buy a Wii. The problem is, there are also a lot of unscrupulous guys out there buying up every reserve ticket and console they can find so they can sell it at 200% markup on ebay and craigslist.
Seriously, this crap is driving me up the wall. In my local newspaper that services maybe 1,000,000 people (probably half of that, realistically), I counted 26 classified ads for Wiis, and they were all marked up to $450-600. The only hope I have for sweet justice is that these idiots don't find any buyers for their racket and end up stuck with two or three grand invested in multiple consoles. Seeing how crazy people get over $99 laptops and Tickle-Me-Elmo's gives me little hope, though. _________________ QED, sort of. |

I'm going to wait for awhile to see which ends up with the best games. Also, I'm not about to stand in line at 3am to buy a videogame.
The pros/cons as I see them-
Wii (Pros)
Inexpensive (!!!!!!)
More active/engaging
smaller
Plays Gamecube (big plus for me)
Virtual console (less of a plus because of emulators)
It's Nintendo (I'm a Nintendo loyalist of sorts)
People really seem to be taking to it
FUN pack-in game
Wii (cons)
Doesn't play Blue Ray, HD-DVD OR standard DVD (despite what Nintendo says we want, It would be nice to have just one player connected to my set, and the Wii does component out)
a little on the "gimmicky" side
Games so far are mostly ho-hum (for me at least).
Only 480p resolution (BIIIIIG downer for me)
Controllers require standard batteries (another big downer)
PS3 (Pros)
INCREDIBLE graphics
Tilt sensor in controller (No, it's not as cool as the Wiis, but just wait- it will come)
Blue Ray DVD playback, and it also plays everything else (BIIIIGGG PLUS)
Up to 1080I resolution (BIIIGG Plus)
Plays (for the most part) all the PS1, PS2 games
PS3 Cons
Prohibitively expensive
Made by Sony (I generally hate Sony for the sheer amount of faulty stuff of theirs I've had.)
The thing is MASSIVE
No rumble feature on controllers (I don't care what anyone else thinks, I LOVED that feature in FPS)
The games right now are pretty much shit (but I'm sure they'll get better quickly) |

I can't get over how many people see this as a downer. I mean wtf, really. NiMH rechargeables, do you know them? Not even decent ones are expensive compared to normal batteries, let alone any proprietary format of a battery that could've been used instead. They last a very long time if you get decent mAh ones(good brand, not shitty one that just makes empty claims), you can use them in a ton of different devices. If you got a digicam that doesn't use proprietary but NiMH then you should already have more than decent ones lying around aplenty.
Could anyone explain why any sane person would choose a proprietary battery format that needs to be recharged by the supplied charger and can't just be switched on the fly like NiMHs (while you recharge the other set) or be used in any other device over something standardized as NiMHs?
The only point I can see is that you need to purchase them yourself and that adds to the cost of the controller in the end, but I have no illusions that if they added a proprietary battery it would've been visible in the controller costs anyways.
P.S. Ironically I use Sony NiMHs in my Wii remote. |

Yeah, NiMHs are the obvious alternative to standard Alkaline, I don't really know how they compare because I don't use them other than what is in my camera and (is an iPod's battery a NiMH?).
My comment was really geared towards using standard alkaline. |

I only recently bought these after another set of NiMHs got weak after years of usage. The ones I had before were GP branded ones that came with my fast charger. I tried several brands and the cheaper ones always were beyond shitty compared to the GP or Sony, which turned out to be the best I bought. So right now I have an older Set of Cybershot NiMHs and the ones I linked to, which btw are darned cheap on the US Amazon.
You're totally right about the normal throwaway batteries thing, I just didn't think there'd be so many people out there still using those in devices like the Wii and then actually complain about needing so many. Don't even want to start thinking what this might cause to the environment. |

Sorry for bumping this up already, but I can't believe I'm the only guy here who wanted a Wii and got one(well at least have one at under the Christmas tree)?
You better all come out of hiding soon, so I can add you to my friendlist and populate my Wii with your Miis once it's all set up again. On the other hand, if you got a Wii already you might be playing it all day instead of going to Sijun. |

Bought Wii Play (those Minigames with the Remote) and just got Zelda in. The store here gets small shipments each day, kind of weird logistics I guess. They'll call me once they sorted out what was in the new shipment and I can get a Nunchuck or Svideo cabling. Thinking about buying Rayman Raving Rabbids too, it's so weird and funny looking I probably can't resist.
11 more days. ARGH! |

EB / Gamestop got a shipment in today, so call around, maybe you will get lucky.
I have to get back to work though, and I'm busy tonight, so I might not get a chance to try it till saturday. Or just stay up really late tonight |

Sweet, glad you could score one. My friend was indecisive and now they are all sold out again everywhere.
2 days left for me until I can set it up again and this time for good. I haven't been so excited about my Christmas present for years now. |

Yep, picked up the 300 dollar Zelda when it launched here.. then found out it doesn't support VGA cable so I can't use it with Cintiq. Same thing happened when I picked up Conker Live and Reloaded for 360 and it didn't support VGA cable (it runs in 60hz mode in original Xbox so it must be a bug in the emulator program).
Played some Zelda on flickering 480i on old tv and it just wasn't very fun experience after being spoiled by 720p games on Xbox 360.
Party games Wii Play and Wii sports seemed rushed and very shallow in options - though they did give great idea of the potential of the hardware.
Personally I would love to see storytelling games that are actually designed for the Wii (Zelda doesn't really count in my opinion because it's mostly a Gamecube title from graphics to controls) _________________ www.TimoVihola.com

You use your Cintiq as a monitor? Which size and resolution is it, and how does it handle upscaling?
If you don't like your Wii, I bet you could still sell it without any loss whatsover, due to the shortages all around. |

http://www.wacom.com/lcdtablets/index_21UX.cfm it's that one, basically works like any other lcd monitor.
Playing games in 480i (I mean games that were developed and tested in 480p) just feels like watching a movie in 4:3 aspect ratio (which have 16:9 or even 2.35:1 original aspect ratios). In short I like the Wii, but I don't like the unreleased VGA cable
I design games for a living so any console Wii included has even greater interest for me in the actual hardware/controller sector. I even have n-gage and no plans to sell that _________________ www.TimoVihola.com
