So, last October when my computer when kaput (damn overclocking... I never learn) I started concentrating on amassing enough disposable income to spend on a new digital art workstation. Well, the time is ripe, and by June (unless something bad happens) I should have enough money to replace my Intuos 2 6x8 with a Cintiq 21ux.
A few questions, and this is directed to people who use or have used them for a while:
Are they worth the premium over a large Intuos3 and are they all that they are cracked out to be?
I've heard a lot of good about the 21ux, and a little bad. Although there are people who prefer a mouse or trackball to a tablet, must be some who prefer a tablet to an integrated LCD, and there certainly are people who prefer the luxury of a drawing surface unmarred by a hand.
How is the color accuracy on the Cintiq?
I'm already going to be getting a monitor calibrator in the near future on account of my CRTs, does the Cintiq use a cheap EL backlight, or an LED backlight?
Any recommendations on a proper graphics card?
I was able to snag a 7900GTX for $120.00, legally, and while that certainly has waaaay more than enough horsepower, I'm contemplating selling it and getting a nice Matrox instead.

Yeah, but what happens when you refine your tastes so specifically that they don't exist?
At that point it is your duty to bring them into being.

Had mine since last summer. I had the 15 inch contiq for a couple of years before that. I use an intuous 3 at work. My take: The Cintiq is only better than a regular tablet in the preliminary phases of a picture - at the sketching phase. It's still a far cry from sketching on paper, but it is a lot better than sketching with a regular tablet. However, if you still intend to do all your sketching on paper and scan them in, you can save your money and stick with a regular tablet.
Cheers
