Hey, I hope this question isn't too elementary for all of you, but I'm doing a pretty big painting and as I do work with the details I need a superfine brush that is completely opaque (paints exactly the color I select).
It should be easy for me to find something like this but it's turning into a great chore. There's a single-pixel pen variant but unfortunately it's color can only be as bright as the color behind it (even with opacity turned up to 100%, unfortunately it's not truly opaque...builds to black rather than the color I select).
I tried liquid ink but one an are has been colored the "liquid ink" bleeds so the brush size is more like 5-6 rather than 1 (pixel).
I'm very frustrated and even though I really liked the painting originally working on it at all is becoming a very unpleasant chore that I'm sick of forcing myself through. I think there has to be a simple solution that I'm not seeing.
If anyone could tell me how I can get a superfine completely opaque brush variant in Painter IX that would be fantastic. Thanks. |

In Painter 8 the brush:
Pens 1-Pixel
Works like you want, I can draw yellow over black no problem.
But it sounds like you tried that one. I dont know why they would change that brush in version 9. |

When you say it "builds to black", it sounds as though the brush applicator is set to "Build-Up" as apposed to the usual one (which I can't remember off-hand, might be "Overlay" or something similarly vague).
Setting it to the standard color applicator method (in Brush Settings "Ctrl-B") should make it opaque. |

Sampster,
Sounds like your Pens' 1-Pixel variant needs to be restored to its default state (Brush Selector menu > Restore Default Variant).
It won't build to black when restored to its default state as these are the General palette settings:
Dab Type: Single-Pixel
Stroke Type: Single
Method: Cover
Subcaegory: Soft Cover
Opacity: 100%
Expression: None]
