The problem is the background is much more interesting than the character itself (not that either of them were dull). That, and being so bright it eats away the attention the guy in front would get :[.

To me, there are no rules to art. This is how I wanted it. Black and white contrasting with a bright BG.

yep yep.. the figure just seems pasted on as an afterthought. perhaps if the light and color of the background interacted with the rendering of the head - some color splashes, colored shadows, highlights, some indication that the character is actually in the scene.
