Am I weird or something? I just recently recieved my Wacom Intious in the mail. Now after almost a week of use, I still don't find it any easier to use. I have tested my skills and have found that I can draw something with the mouse many times better than I can with the Pen. I have even adjusted the pressure to fit how I usually write. What should I do? Throw out the mouse and use only the Pen until its second nature to me or something?

Just keep trying, I had a nearly impossible time using my Wacom when I first got it, it was so hard drawing on the pad, but the results only appearing on the screen. Eventually you get used to it.

Nah, don't throw it out. Tablets take a long time to get used to for some people (especially people who have used mice their entire lives for digital art). It can be very strange. You should keep practicing and practicing, even if it does feel weird. Finally, even if it takes as long as a month, you'll get used to it.

Oh, and if you find that you don't like it, I am always open to people sending me their tablets.

Hi Teufel.

No you're not weird. =) I suppose some people adapt more easily than others to such new input devices.

Before I even knew what a tablet was, I had been using a mouse to draw for MANY years, and when I first started work at a game company, I was given a mouse and a wacom 12x12 tablet. Well, I had tried to use it, but just couldn't get the hang of it, always looking to pickup my pen and bring it back to reposition my pointer/brush like I used a mouse. I gave up -- frustrated at this expensive worthless piece of technology.

About a month after, I decided that I would learn how to use this device, and focused on learning how to use it... weeks later, I couldn't live without it.

Basically, take the time you need to get it -- it may or may not come easy for you, or any individual for that matter. It's very different than a mouse, but if you're good at drawing by hand on paper, then you'll do well with the tablet as you get at ease with it.

Experiment with it. Relaxe. Let your brain get used to it's function. You'll automatically get better at it as time goes by.

Hope that helps -- at least morally. =)

cheers.
frost.

Hey buddy, you sound down.

But there are three simple things you can do:

1. Stay positive. Never insult yourself. When you have time, reflect upon your positive virtues.
2. Challenge yourself. Always demand your best. When you fail to deliver, don't hurt yourself. Just stay positive and challenge yourself agian.
3. When you're really low, take another human life. You'll feel better afterwards and no harm will be done.

Always keep these in mind. Be positive, challenge yourself, and kill people. With your heart in it, you can do anything you want.

I came from a traditional art background, so the tablet was natural translation of what I had been used to. For me, using a mouse for art is like drawing with a brick, but if that's what you've gotten used to, the switch would be hard. Try drawing with traditional media a lot, pencil on paper etc, while you're getting used to the tablet. You may find it helps you get used to it. Of course the tablet doesn't have the tactile feeling that pencil on paper or brush on canvas has, but you get the idea. If that bothers you, as it sometimes does me, you could try putting a piece of paper over the tablet as you draw; it gives more resistence.

Good Luck!

doing that wherez down your tips tho :\

hmm... oh well

DO it anyways... hehe j.k What I learned was that with the tablet your not just going to beable to pik it up and churn out stuff like mullins or dhabih or what not.... you have to practice.. just draw all day and all night with it.. even if it is just some stupid lil' thingy... JUST DO IT!

Thanks guys. I was hoping this is what I would hear. Its sad that I can nearly write as well with my mouse as I can freehand. I guess thats what the mouse does to you after you have been deprived of the wonderful tool that is the Tablet and Pen. I am going to give the paper thing a try, maybe that will at least change something.

I wasn't really upset or anything. I was just hoping that there wasn't anything wrong with me, but thats for the mental support too.

Thanks again.
