Hello everyone, you don't know me, but I feel like I know quite a few of you, at least a little bit.
Going by the date on the shortcut in my favorites, I've been visiting here off and on since Jan. 03. Sometimes I may go a few months between visits, but when I do come back I always spend several days catching up, and looking through all the great work.
The speedpainting thread has always been my favorite, though I enjoy looking at all the work here.
A little about me;
I was into art pretty hot and heavy through High School... was in the art room 3-4 periods per day my Junior and Senior years. I was drawing pretty much any chance I got.
I took Saturday classes at the Columbus College of Art and Design both Junior and Senior years, and around age 23 or so I went back and enrolled in the school full time for Illistration. But I ran into financial difficulty and wasn't even able to complete my first set of classes.
Anyway, I spent the next 6-7 years working as a Tattoo artist in a little street shop. It paid the bills, but I eventualy got to where I didn't enjoy drawing so much and got out of it.
I've been doing web design as a hobby for the last 7-8years or so while working as a Printer for about the last five. I've been using Paint Shop Pro for most of my graphics, nothing outstanding or anything, just simple stuff... which is what I prefer in a website layout.
Well, to make a long introduction a bit shorter, the Sijun inspiration hook was finaly set, and I ordered a Wacom this past week, which I recieved on Thursday.
I'm sure you've all seen this tutorial by eyewoo. Being brand new to photoshop, I was unable to grasp the lasso/adjustment concept of the tutorial, so I just painted it how I could.
So, my first digital painting with an Intuos3 and Photoshop:
I didn't spend much time on the drawing at all (which shows) but I was very suprised I was able to render as well as I did since I've only been playing with photoshop for a couple days.
I have to say that I'm very impressed with PS, and have also downloaded the trials for Illistrator and Painter 9.5.
I hope I can continue to get inspiration here, and eventualy be able to call myself an artist again. |

Thanks for the replies!
I was beginning to think I might not get any.
I know the painting is nothing compared with what most of you here can do in your sleep, but I was pleased with it considering the difficulty in switching to photoshop... And, I haven't so much as picked up a pencil to draw with since mid to late 1999.
While the Wacom obviously makes the drawing a lot more intuitive, but I'm still finding it easier to do some things with the mouse. I guess a lot of that has to do with switching interfaces, to PS, and discovering how to get to things.
Photoshop is an entirely different animal compared to Paint Shop Pro.
I've been reading through about every tutorial that I can find. They are a great help, even if I don't paint along. |
