Ok I know you guys are more into the alternative coloring and drawing and I'm more a cartoony/sweet/commercial drawing guy. But still I wonder what you guys think of what I've been mixing up these last 2 years. Try to look at it from a commercial angle like "what do women like to send".

I made this site together with some other artists(although for now I delivered most of the content) since we're to tired of publishers who are to arrogant and only want to work with their fammiliar group or the ones that are to affraid to invest in something new due to the economic climate. Well I did do work for Hallmark through my former employer but my contract forbids me to contact them and the second biggest publisher here.

The site is mostly meant as a podium for our own work and that's why we keep it for free at all times and just hope to get some good sponsors(for the banners) to keep on doing what we like.

But just shoot what you think....

Yeah, not really the sort of thing you're going to get a reaction to I'm afraid. A bit too simple, or not artistic enough.

Hey I'm all for cartoons and animation but these are rather standard. They're really cute though!

Well I can only say that that is a nice compliment.... You won't see any spectacular drawingstyles or other technical impressive things in the greetingcards bussiness but it's so much more important to make "cute" things.

Although it's technically not so impressive in the way "most of you" see things, it's just as hard to touch someones emotions with an illustration. It's technical in a very different area. Warner Bross are kings in this area and many years ago Discovery made an item of it in one of there shows. They were explaining what WB was focussing on and what studies they did to find the technical features to find out "how to make something cute".

I learned a hell of alot by that show and always kept focussing on the things I learned and to develop it in another way. It's like snoopy, one of the most easy things to draw but be honest, few lines, great emotional impact. Now that's great in my eyes.

But it also makes it more obvious why 90% of all comics being sold are bought by men and 90% of all greeting cards bought by women..... Both markets are targeted andaimed for different emotions.... Quite interesting...

The same reason why most visitors here are men and perhaps like these kinds of things not as much because the way most of you look at things it's less kewl and less impressive.

But don't get me wrong I myself must admit that I enhoy the type of work I see here more then the most things you see in the greeting cards market... But that doesn;t mean I do not enjoy making things for the greetingcards market....

Hey Heiny,
I looked at your stuff.
I think they fit well into the greetings card market category.

A long time ago I did some illustrations that are similar in style.
I know it can be quite hard to hit the right emotion in these kind of illustrations.
Keep in mind that people at this forums are more interested in concept art
and fine art.

It can get discouraging when you dont get any replys. I know Smile
Maybe check out devianart ? Im sure you would get more replys over there.

cheers,
Thomas

really cute. i agree with thomas(pringle) that it does fit into the greeting card market. you're the best i've seen so far. when looking for greeting cards, many people go for cute. so you're there. maybe try more simplistic designs. say more with less, that kind of thing. perhaps it would have momre impact.
