Here's my first attempt with Zbrush, but I've been using many different 3D programs before, so I'm not new with 3D.
This seems like a really cool program if you want to create something very detailed very quickly. I did this in couple days, and I'm still just learning this program.

So here's couple sketches for this creature.

And here's some screenshots and test renders from the prosess.

And finally a quick test, yet without textures.
This is painted in photoshop, using one of the test render, so I would know better what sort of textures to create later.

Thanks. I have a story, and a storyboard for it, but now that I look at the story again, I think I want it to be more creepy. More like Tim Burton mixed with H.R.Giger Very Happy
And that story doesn't fit that theme.
But I think I'll come up with a better story later, but before that, I will make a pose picture of this creature, for my portfolio.

Thanks. I'm not sure if the model is just too messy, that you can't figure out, what you are looking at? But I guess some of it will be fixed, when I make proper textures for it.
Hold on your panties, more wips comin' Very Happy

Thanksies.

So, here is the block model for Zbrush, and below it two screenshots of the animatable mesh(design of it). Now it's far better to animate, since the polygon flow is designed, considering how the character will move, and how the muscles go. I drew the polygon flow over a texture in Zbrush, so it's easier to design it. Later I just snapped new polygons over my old Zbrush model, using the drawed polygon texture.

And since I'm here, I might as well put couple renders here too. As you can all see I just threw some color in, but the textures are coming.

Thank you for the intrest. This is a very early stage to ask me that question, but I do. Music and ehh sound effects, or what do you call them. I'm not very familiar with the world of audio. Very Happy
I took a look at your and your friends site. You have very emotional, and powerful way to express music. I love that "the light from the darkness" song. That is actually very close to the type of music I would love to have in this. Tough, it's not final desision, ofcourse.
But as I said, this is in very early stage. I haven't done even block model animation of this, wich is sort of a storyboard that is animated with very rough blockobjects. After I have done that, I can send it to you, and you can start making rough music, and rough sound effects.
If you will like the story that is.. Of course when I publish the story, critics are more than welcome.

Can I hear more of your music?
My ICQ is: *********

Here is a concept of a girl that is going to be in that new story.
I have not written that new story yet and I just have some pieces in my head, that should be in it. This concept was also a research of the style I want in this short film. This girl is going to be rendered to look as real as humanly possible, though I don't think I will reach the level of the LOTR. At least by my self and with my 1,6 Ghz amd Smile
This film is going to be very dark and stylized. Think of TimBurton-mixedwith-Giger-mixedwith-me, and you should get very close.

Looks like something has disappeared from this thread.

Here's the missing concept.

And here's a new one, with rough camera test.

Allllllrighty then.
Here is that fish fella now modelled and I did a simple skinshader test just to know how XSI skinshader works, and that way I will know in the future how exactly to create skin textures.
So modelling for this fish fellow is approximately done for now. Next I will create a rig for him, and make couple animation tests. After that comes UV-mapping, refining modelling (closeup details for face area), textures and the real skinshader. And after that I will add some clothing for him, and ofcourse that is not the end of the list..

C&C are welcome.

Thanks for the comments.
Capt.Fred: Yeah, I thought not to go with that gray skin, as I planned in the concept. It may be that it looks good in concept, but white skin will make alot better contrast with the background. And there is a good profit to make one skinshader that I can reuse with that meremaid too, because skinshader reguires alot of tweaking and time consuming test renders.

Max: Heh, that will take some time, If being realistic.
But I will update this thread as much as I make more stuff, that can be viewed. I make this almost every day, but unfortunetly at the moment I'm creating a rig and cleaning up the character mesh, so there is not very much eyecandy to show Razz

Anyway, thank you all for your replys. It's nice to see I'm not posting just for my self. Smile

Update.
I created UV-maps for this character, and redefined the polygon flow on the face and hands. Now it looks good, and will animate much better.
Sorry, no silmkarkkia this time.

A test to see how lights work on skin shader. It was time consuming because it was all about tweaking parameters and rerendering the character over and over again. But now it works great. Razz

Really nice work Petri, how are you going to render all this though? I would figure to achieve that quality level takes some time.

Tomasis, yeah, thats a selfportrait, and I think Im getting really close. Smile

Iandredd, well the problem is not about rendering. Ofcourse I will keep every scene as light and as optimized as possible, but the problem is with creating all the content! I realize that rendering is the issue that rises in every largescale movie pipeline to a very dominant role, because when they get those effects done just in time, rendering will have to be very fast and product shipped to store in time.
Anyways, my guess is that I will get some very short teaser done in two years, if Ill keep working hard. Razz

Thanks all for replys.
