I'm working on a book cover where a pale and tired 12-year-old girl is attacked by a shadow creature (which you can see reflected in her eyes - her bright green eyes are supposed to be the main focus of the image). I need criticism. How can I improve the image?

Where is the text going to go for the book title and author? If this is the full picture you're going to have a lot of head covered up by words. |

Yes, the text will cover the forehead.

hey martin,
i would say that if she's attacked, she doesn't look too scared. if you can add an expression of fear in here face, it would add the extra touch. And I also believe that the highlight on the left side of her face (our right), is too think, and just makes it seem part of line art or something. Fade it out by bringing some more of it on the skin. i really love her eyes so far though!! _________________ http://www.annisnaeem.blogspot.com/ |

i am no painter, but i would make the eyes bigger, since they supposed to be the focus of the cover. _________________ Waiting, for your modern messiah

Here are two new versions. Which one looks better? How old does the girl look now?
(BTW, the girl is supposed to look more determined/angry than scared.)

the last change to the eyebrows is very good. i recomend you work more on cleaning up your edges... and i think her chin should jut out a little more. _________________ Ylla's Art Gallery

Ah, that last one is good. You got that determined look now and her mouth looks better. I like the overall color change too. |

Apparently she looked a bit too angry and scary, so here's yet another version:

If the point was that she is supposed to look angry/determined then the previous one was better. This new one is rather neutral looking.
The customer is always right I suppose |

One thing that I notice is that the shading and highlights in the eyes are wrong. She looks kinda alien with the way they look. Maybe, they're too shiny?? I think it makes it look like the shadow monster thingie is coming out of her eyes...Omg though I'd kill to do hair like you can! _________________ Say whaaaaaaaat? |

Her eyes were supposed to be very bright and shiny (although I decreased the brightness in the last pic to make her look more natural). _________________ My homepage:
