Hello,

Back from Prague from the Conceptart/Massiveblack last workshop, which I've joined as Instructor for doing demos.
It was awesome. Really. I have a wonderful time there. The city is magnific. I've shared and learned a lot.
Really happy to meet again some friends and discover new peoples. I come back home with a fuckin' inspiration.
Just want to still rise my own standards.
Tons of pics of the Workshop here :

So here are some pics I've done as demos.
I've tried to do some differents things from the others instructors, just showing dfferent technics and approaches. Even some of them I'm not using really often.

First day, I began with a pic inspired from a conversation with awesome artist Marko Drudjevic, about life experience and the need to feed ourselves from Life to grow as artists.
He told me he was once in a plane, sitting just near an old woman trying sadly to cut a chocolate barre with some plastic plane knife.
What a wonderful life !
So I've taken this story as starting point for a picture (like a kind of artbrief), creating a SciFi weird vision from all of this. As I explained there, I began with notes and quick sketch, to find as much references and symbols as I can to express this kind of "social slavery".
Assembly line (c/o my speech about composition and Vassili Kandisky, "Points, lines and plans"), Chains and cables, barre code, Brazil the movie...

Second day, I've worked on an environnment, inspired by Prague the city.
First day there, I've taken hundreds of photographs of this awesome city.
And then my goal for this pics was to create some futuristic vision of Pragues, like 2038 for example for a Videogame.
It turned as a comic-book cover then on wich I added some graphic design :

here's a funny photograph, taken just in front of our hotel.
I've just duplicated the vertical line of the L to make ALEKSI and put it in my picture :

Tird day, I was talking about comic-books and storytelling, graphic layout for pages and this kind of thing. I've used my Prague's picture to produced a double B&W page on wich Oblio filled the ballon caption with appropriate texts :

Funny.

Then a monster speedpainting and an interesting photo taken through a longview in the city :

I was happy to speak not only about technics but also about composition and creative process. I don't know if it was clear but I have fun with it.

IT WAS REALLY FANTASTIC !!

cheers everybody !!

Fantastic work, which is what I've come to expect from seeing one of your posts pop up. I wish I could have seen futuristic city scene as it was developed, as I struggle with those most of all. Any instructional materials planned for general or paid release as a result of Prague?

Oh my God. The cityscape is amazing, just as everything else. Suggest CA guys to do that in Finland. I want to join.

Cheers Aleksi,
Nice stuff. I'm especially fond of the cityscape and your black & whites.

Thanks !
And yeah this stuff was done only in 3/4 afternoons in front of people, for demos.
My goal was to produce interesting pictures but also to share creative process and open minds to differents things, like illustration, composition, comics page graphic design, storytelling, creative process...

Falldamage : maybe more on some upcoming demos DVDs ????
