Hehe i just came back from NYC tournament.
Got a few scratches, but overall in one piece.
Umm.. i'll show you a video when they make a DVD. Basically, it was about 40/60 not in my favor. My fight was the most violent i think, but i made the other guy bleed too. It was funny cause i came there by myself, and my opponent came with like 5 other people all wearing business suits Very Happy

HEhe and i was liek "hi! wassup!!" lol.
Anyway. moo.. Crying or Very sad

What no pics? Guess we'll have to wait for the video. Glad you came out without any serious injury!

Hehe well Embarassed
I made bad mistakes. Didn't use kicks, and my defence was sh*t. I did better in second round, but it was too late. I was like a f***ing tree about to fall.
It's alright.. i'm taking a rest now, but next year i'll be back on track training.

Yeah, unfortunately all that shit that looks cool in kung fu movies only works if the other guy plays along. Was grappling allowed in the tournament you were in , Shizo?

Kinda. In Sanda (Sanshou) you can use takedowns, throws, sweeps. But no fighting on the ground. It's still considered kickboxing.

Kungfu techniques work..once you get past the whole concept of techniques, which takes like 7 years or so of good hard training and lots of fighting. Very Happy Of course most of them are more brutal than you'd want to use in sanshou

Well, as far as MA go.. i personally think it's not what you train, but how well you train it. For example, you could be a killer Taiji master, or a wussy Muay Thai fighter. It all depends on a person.

As far as youth.. i started training too late - at 21.. i'm 22 now. Most people i know started when they were kids. That's probably why i lost too.. my opponent must've been training for years.

thumb rule to any martial art is: if you spin kick, you lose. If you jump, you're in problems. You want to stick to ground and use no higher kicks than to ribs, then your opponent can't take an advantage of your tricking attempts.

okay, maybe I meant reverse spin kick or anything considered fancy. Even if you hit with them, they're not effective - instead you'll lose your balance and end up into problems. Rolling Eyes

spinning side kick is very powerful,though...not a good first technique by any means...but it hurts!..especially if you get caught moving into it.

well it might work if you execute it perfectly and it hits perfectly. That's luxury at least I don't have - to be able to attack flawlessly Wink

high kicks work too....just have to go low,go low....go high,if you know what i mean.
plus,if you use jab/cross/ rear leg high roundhouse...especially if you kind of leave your cross out there...its very difficult to see that high roundhouse.
