Well, it deals w/computer graphics.
I'm upgrading my system to an Athlon 600 and wondering if I should get a new video card instead of a CDRW. I currently have a Riva TNT w/16mb of ram.
I'm also upgrading my 32mb of ram w/128mb of ram. Will this help out my TNT w/2d graphics for drawing as well as 3d or should I upgrade to a TNT2 and scrap the CDRW.
I would go for a GeForce but it's out of my budget.
Or, should I go for a 10x DVD Rom drive w/Sigma Hollywood decoder card?
Decisions decisions decisions!!
Please help out!!!!
Thanks.
PS -- Anyone go to Gamespy.com lately and see my name? I won a Gaming Modem - I always thought contests on the net were rigged until now.

Personally I would get the TNT2 because I have a really old m3d1.
Congrats on winning on Gamespy.com.

Well.... A CDRW is very very helpful... he he he I got 50 CD's for x-mas and it is cool to get friends CD's and MP3's and make audio CD's
Plus, if you get the right kind of CDRW and Software, You can make any disc really a Read Write Disc, which is awesome. Ack... dinner time!! ... Mmmmm, lasagna... Anyways, It's just like adding a removable HD, if you hook it up right... And if your not a big gamer.. I dunno, if you'd want the bigger Video Card... whereas you can get some more Ram or something and thats always good, and IMHO i always thought.... why in the hell would i wanna watch a DVD on my 17" CPU screen when I can get one for a 31" TV?? |

Well, with the decoder card you can hook your computer up to the tv, so you can watch your moview on the computer.
My famalies pretty fixed on the CDRW. How do you set it up for read write? Isn't slow?
I think I'm gonna add in a 52x CD-Rom as well for faster performance.
I strongly suggest MWave.com. They have very cheap prices just to let you know. My memory upgrade (128mb) is only $126 or maybe lower. The PC133 is also around that price but a few dollars higher (us currency). The 52x CD I can get for like $35. And I'm getting the CDRW 8x 4x 32x for $199. They also have the some of the cheapest Athlons around.

if your interested in using 3dapps, i would srongly recommend the tnt2. e.g. softimage runs with this card quite faster that with an oxygene 402, which is a highpriced "professional" card....get it, its worth the money.... |

Well, I have a Guillemot Hercules 3d Prophet DDR-DVI (Geforce). I think it is one of the best consumer (non-professional) cards out there. In Lightwave, it works wonders. I can get about 40 fps with an object of 5000 polys or more. VERY helpful. I would recommend a geforce over any other card if you're into 3d apps or gaming. However, if you're just doing 2d stuff, I would stick with the TNT and just buy lots and lots of ram.....
For Photoshop, ram is more important than your video display....

Get a VX1. It's a professional level card and it's under $200. Definitely much better than a geforce for 3D work. It runs Maya like a dream.
