OK, with this I am probably done with Batman type stuff for a while. Let me know what you think.

MENTAL ORGASM!!!
...great drawing man.
Did you use custom brushes for the background bats, or what? |

Thanks guys. Frode, I have a "bat brush" I used at work on some vampire paintings, but for this one I didn't have access to that brush. I just painted some and cloned them a lot to make the big group.
I changed this piece a bit after receiving some helpful comments in the other art forums.

Creepy.
I love the crispness of the original. The second looks a little blurry to me, although the image still works well. _________________ Art Links Archive -- Artists and Tutorials |

Great painting!! I like the first version much better. Just the left foot is better in the second one. Hand should stay the way it is in the original version. Colorsheme, textures and sharpening adds to the quality I think - maybe abit less sharpening because the outlines get too strong at the bats wings imho. : )
Anyway, amazing work!! |

yep, i love the crispiness of the textures in the first too, maybe if you duplicate the layer, sharpen the top one, then erase some of the sharpened outlines around the topmost bats, that's the only area that looks oversharpened to me, the bats underneath him look kickass that crispy, really adds to the evilness |

The crispness in the first definately works, except in the sky which looks too grainy ( but I like the sharpness of the bats at the top ). The face is also cooler in the first version. You could probably darken the top left corner a bit though, to draw the eye more to the focal point, as right now it kinda takes your focus outta the page ).
Very good, though it doesn't look like Batman... Doesn't look human! |

I can already imagine the headlines in the gotham herald. "Batman's long lost brother turns out to be an evil twin!" .
Hand and Foot are MUCH better in the second version, but be sure to add the sharpness again once youre fully done. It really added to that gritty evil feel of it.
Great work, altough I dont like some anatomy proportion decisions. The deltoid/triceps area for example, and also it think his upper leg muscles are too small compared to his calf ones and the hugeness of his upper arm. |

I LOVE the crispness in the first one. I think in the second, the hand and foot look much much better, but overall I think I still prefer the first, because of the atmosphere. Also, and I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this already, I like the coloring of the first one better too. Looking at both, the colors look like they are pretty much in the same spots and everything, but somehow the colors in the newer version are too (in my opinion) overpowering. I also agree that the huge arm is kind of weird looking. It was one of the first things I noticed (after the "sweet!", of course) and it looks impossible that it's attachd to him like that.
Anyway, yeah....main thing is I would stick with the more sharpened image and just use the new hand and foot. |

Defintely like the sharper one... I actually dont mind the misproportions in the body, they suit the image well imo. |

Francis, whoa~!!! Finally Batman looks deserving his slogan
I would prefer second version but desaturated and sharpened to original's state
edit. The hand in the original has right scary feeling. |

pretty sweet, I definitely like the first one better. it has great texture work.
His right arm is freakin huge though, its almost 3 times as long as his left arm. That arm also seems too long. This might be an opportunity unstiffen the pose of which the arms are the main cause. _________________ www.synestheticstudios.com |

fantastic! definatly not the batman i expected
nothing else to add. all compliments has already been told.
it's easy to see that there is a difference between the 2 images, but i cant exactly tell what it is. the second one appears blurry but it's not. it's still very sharp. what did u do between the 1st one and the 2nd? what kinda filter is that? im curious _________________ ToPeirA |

ahh yeah, i guess it isn't a claw. hmm maybe just change that bit of cape so that the tatters don't look like a hand. _________________ www.synestheticstudios.com |

Now that I think about it, the hand in the first one is rather creepy. The whole arm and hand in the first one looks poised, ready to strike, like it's gonna just shoot out or something. Reminds me of a creepy cartoon or something, maybe nightmare before christmas...haha off topic but I just saw a preview for a new movie in that style..looks sweet. |

It's tight
I would like it better if his mouth was closed and his arm was down a little. It looks like he has no neck. _________________ Action desired |

Sumaleth - thanks man; yes, I think I'm still trying to figure out exactly how much sharpening is good in the transition from LCD to CRT screens.
Max Kulich - thanks for the feedback, I appreciate your input.
spyroteknik - hmm, good ideas - I will give that a try. I really should take the time to do a more selective sharpening, instead of just filtering the whole image.
Critical Pete - thanks for the thoughts and suggestions. This was not really intended to be a literal interpretation of Batman - it's more like what would Batman be like if you were to illustrate him based on a firsthand description from a criminal who ran into him. Also, just on a more practical note I wanted to be able to use this for other purposes without having to worry about copyright or trademark infringement (at least not obviously).
gLitterbug - thanks; yah, the anatomy choices are intentionally a bit far out, which can cause some problems as you noted. Hopefully my skills in that area will improve!
Odds - yea man, thanks for the suggestion!
Mega Muffin - thanks for the feedback. I did reduce the desaturation the second time (meaning the desaturate adjustment layer on top was set to a lower opacity the second time).
The Real Mark - thank you
AdamMiller - thanks man, although I think I have pretty much worn out the Batman topic.
viag - rats! But thanks!
ax--hv - thank you, I agree on the saturation, but personally I prefer the newer hand. Thanks though!
MrTrichomes - yes, the arm is unrealistically long/large. I was hoping to exaggerate the proportions a bit.
ax--hv - I was wondering the same thing. Actually went back and looked at the painting to see if I had in fact painted the other arm and just forgot about it...
Godwin - thanks man!
topeira - thank you; it's the unsharp mask filter in Photoshop. Also added a foot and made some subtle color changes.
MrTrichomes - hm, that is a possibility...
Mega Muffin - neat! What was the movie?
Shane2722 - thanks; I did want to have that backlit effect in his mouth, to make his teeth silhouetted.
annisahmad - thanks d00d! _________________ Francis Tsai

I think I like the second version even better.
Are you planning on printing them, cause it would make a killer poster.
I'd even buy one if it would be a reasonable price. ![Razz](images/smiles/icon_razz.gif) |

I think the rendering and colors of the first one is much better.
The only thing that is better on the second is the hand and the foot.
The blur on the second is not as intresting. |

Nice work... Like both versions, but tend to prefer the first with more muted color.
That there is a cool batman ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ HonePie.com
