Finally finished.
The older we get, the less likely we are to do something crazy and romantic. I've done some really crazy romantic stuff when I was younger, and I don't regret any of it. This one's for all you mushy romantics. Yeah, you know who you are.
For this piece, I wanted to evoke feelings of classic romance--like Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, but I also wanted it to feel modern, so I had him climbing a modern art deco styled building, and they're wearing contemporary clothes.

I LOVE it! The second I looked at it, it evoked strong emotion. I love the colors and the posture and the rendering is really romantic feeling. The only thing I have to say...the guy looks a little girly? Unless u are being really modern...LOL. No, just kidding, I can tell it's a guy. And I love the hair, but the face just looks too femine for me. Anyway, i still LOVE it! |

amazingly detailed!!
gorgeous.
only thing - it feels like their eyes are a bit too close to their nose. like their eyes are really close together if u looked at tehm from the front. it may be realistic in some cases, but i guess the picture is about a pretty couple. not an unattractive couple.
anyways, it was just nitpicking. wonderfully done picture _________________ ToPeirA |

Shane2722 - Thanks!
Mega Muffin - It's an Asian thing. If you look at all the biggest male celebrities in most far east Asian countries, they all tend to be "pretty boys." The Japanese are especially into the shojou manga pretty boy look. I grew up with that culture, so it's a part of my personal taste.
topeira - Actually, how close their eyes are to the bridge of the nose and how far their eye sockets are set in the skull has nothing do to with how close theirs eyes are to each other from the front view. If you look at people from the side, the distance of the eye to the nose from the profile will translate into the Z axis in the front view, not the X axis. Different people and races have drastically different height of nose bridges, or depth of eye sockets.
However, the girl's nose bridge doesn't read well because it's the same value as the hair behind it, so it's hard to see. I went ahead and seperated them more, and pushed the upper eye socket back just a little, so that it'll read better in the lighting. |

Hey fine piece as usual! Love the cloth rendering of the guys jacket!
The index finger of the guy seems a bit too big. Another thing is that
the guy doesn't look in her eyes. Is he supposed to look at her mouth?
Anyways great work!
Cheers!

I can't see seth1's picture. Can someone repost it, or maybe seth1 can email it to me? |

Ahh, I can see seth1's picture now. Yeah, it doesn't look like night time anymore. Gots to have my lavender and blues. |

The close up area is really beautiful, and captures the mood very nicely. What gets me is how flat everything else looks - the balcony, for instance, doesn't seem to change in perspective from top to bottom, so it looks very flat (which is why I voted earlier for the top/bottom vegetation, because it pushes the depth a little). Was that an intentional choice? _________________ "Keep on beating and sharpening a sword, and the edge cannot be preserved for long." -Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching |
