Lucid, it is good to see someone who also believes in the facial hair theory. That's why I've made it a habit not to vote for anyone with any sort of facial hair. You're just asking for a brutal totalitarian government.
You can add Saddam Hussain (sp?) to that list, btw.

3ds max, and about 6 hours of work.
Box-modelling: You take a box, subdivide it a little and start moving vertices to sculpt the shape you want.
