The Corner of Critique - Themed Thread

hey guys this is a new idea I just came up with and maybe something that could be helpful, u tell me if it sucks or not.

The idea is that u post any piece that u are not satisfied with or a piece u want something more out of, or just simply want to have critique to take your piece further instead of making a new thread.
The place is open for everyone and everything is allowed to be helpful, like paintovers and such. Please be respectful to eachother and no bashing on eachother as we are looking for constructive critique.

-How to post a picture in the corner of critique-
* first give us a short description about the piece, like your basic idea with the piece.
* then give us a short description what u want out of your piece, looking for realism? or maybe u are looking for the simplified statement? or maybe you want it to become more cartoony? let us know what u want with the piece and where you want to see it go.
* u post only one pic at a time, if you want to add another one just make a new post and make a new description for that unique piece.
* do not give critique in the same post as your picture post, make a new post if you wanna give critique to someone.

-How to critique in the corner of critique-
* critique is open for everyone so you do not have to post a picture to give critique to someone.
* give at least one compliment or state one thing you like in the piece to the one whom you are giving critique.
* give critique based on the posters description on where they want their piece to go.
* overpaints are encouraged and very much welcome.
* u decide to whom u give critique since I guess there can be a lot of posts and a lot of different pics in this thread as time goes by.

ok I guess that is all. Let me know if you want anything to be changed or if any of you think that this idea sucks, you are very much welcome to give me feedback to me via sijun pm service.
have a nice day everyone
Matthew

Sounds like a sound idea to me... but it also sounds like the "Work in Progress" section confined to a single thread... Might get a bit confusing... Question

yes that is true, still at the same time I see a lot of members posting in the speedy looking for critique and saying that their piece doesn't deserve a new thread. I thought this could be an in between distance posting those kind of pieces.
hmm maybe it is too confusing, oh well I thought the idea could work. Crying or Very sad

maybe I should close this thread then?

Matthew- You seem to get discouraged when there's not a lot of intersts in your ideas. I wish you wouldn't. Please keep trying to make things more interesting around here.

I might sound a bit dramatic every now and then, I know.

However, this forum needs something new to survive I believe and I have been bitching about it before but now it is even more obvious I believe. The only time the speedy is blossom out is when spooge is posting, u guys have noticed that?
I guess me taking a part as a savoir isn't my job really but what surprised me way back when the forum was down because of that mysql problem was that I was the only one trying to fix the problem with contacting creationstorm.

So, yes maybe I am a bit disappointed when trying to do threads like this when they go down the drain ignored, at least some kind of attention or people telling me that I suck would be more prefered.
All in all I am tired of forums nowadays, the summer practise have been a small success but far from enough to save this forum.

Why do we need to keep 'possessing' the forum and dictating it's direction? Sijun's strength (imvho) is that it is not influenced by forces (except digital art, obviously).

If you want a focus on conceptart, there is CA. If you want a complete labyrinth of forums covering almost everything, there is CGTalk. Not to mention the kind of demand that means that specific task-based threads are quickly filled.

Many great professional artists drop back in here, I think, because there's no pressure on anyone to do this, or do that (except for one who's tolerance and patience amazes me).

Chill. Relax.

"1"... "2"... "3"... "and calm"...

You suck. Very Happy No seriously I like the idea behind that summer thread, but I guess I don't have any picture for this one. Perhaps your timing for this thread was just wrong.
And about that blossom after spooges posting, I think that it's not just after spooges posts, but any masters post. I think there are many masters on this forum that keep inspiring people with their paintings. Atleast I'm very inspired when someone like, ax--hv, Capt. Flushgarden, tiger1313, P-ric (just to name few) posts a new beautiful painting in the speedpainting thread. That makes me to work harder to improve, and I must thank you for that summer thread, because that forced me to try different styles and brake the rules, and if that's not great then what is?

I'm going to make one poster for one liveroleplaying festival in the near future, so don't quit on this thread just yet.

I don't think there's anyone here who doesn't appreciate the effort you're making, Matthew. That being said, don't worry. This is 5.5 years of Sijun speaking when I say, the forum isn't dying. It didn't die when it went on a three -month hiatus. It didn't die when Dhabih disappeared to make Half Life 2 or when Craig Mullins disappeared on one of his clandestine vacations. It didn't die when half the members emigrated to CA or Eatpoo.

Your thread is a good idea, Matthew. Just imagine if Will Riker ditched every plan he made because Picard was in his quarters drinking tea with no shirt instead of giving him constant encouragement. The Enterprise would have exploded in front of Locutus!

What's a successful forum to you anyways, Matthew? Or, more or less, even a successful thread? You have good ideas and lots of 'em work out... look at the drawing thread, that one's still goin'. You've made this place better, so keep doing it (just don't include the pessimistic attitude). The Summer Practice thread is thriving right now, as well. Don't expect a thread to be as popular as threads over at CGTalk or ConceptART, though. The close community of Sijun is what makes Sijun Sijun. Just my two cents, atleast.
