Hi guys! Just wanted to share my master and servant challenge entry
of CGtalk. I worked about 3weeks on this painting using photoshop.
This is my very first "detailed" painting since I started the speedpainting
thing in April 2004. Hope you like it!

And here is the story:
In a land before time only the greatest hunters can ride a trol. Therefore
they have to challenge a trol to be able to rule over the creature. In a fierce
fight the Master cut of the trols horns and gained the creatures respect.
It's the first hunt together. As they walk through the coppice they descry a
couple of deers in a clearing. The Hunter gives the command to attack the
deers, pulls the reins and picks up a spear out of the quiver. The trol obeys
his masters command and starts to run. The ground terembles under the
heavy steps of the trol and the deers are fleeing in different directions trying
to escape the danger.
The master picked one fine deer and commands the trol to go after it. The
deer is fast but trol is faster. He easily caches up with the deer. The hunter
prepares for his throw. Suddenly a rabbit jumps out of coppice and distracts
the trol.
The Trol tries to follow the white Rabbit but the Master pulls the reins and
screams: "THE DEER YOU FOOL! GO FOR THE DEER!"

Nice! I like your detailing in there, especially on the troll's skin. And I like the sense of depth in the piece with the smaller deer in the back and the one running in the front. Solid piece! Good job on it.

I love it! Great job.

I think it's a little late for critics, but here they are anyway if you're interested.
That troll really doesn't seem to fit in. It looks like, not very much though, that it was cut out from some other picture, not very much, but a little.
Perhaps it doesn't have enough contrast or doesn't reflect enough surroinding colors. And that (his) trolls hand looks transperent, not that it would show though, but the sun is shining right though his skin. And the troll could need some more color variation.

Now the good things are that composition. I really like it. It seems so .. well, natural.
And I like those trees and those little light spots on the ground.

The important fact is that it looks good as a whole (exept for the errors that I mensioned before)

Isn't it amazing how doing finished work like this really sharpens your eye? Speedpaints are great, but you can get a little lop-sided if that's all you're doing.

Great pose on all the creatures. You maybe pushed the transluscent thing a little too much in certain places (maybe not enough in the trees though), but otherwise, a great piece.

Thx for your comments guys! It's very much appreciated!

Petri.J
Thnx for your crits. I won't do changes on this painting anymore but it's
still good to heart crits. I can use them for my next painting.
I see your point. I'll keep it in mind! Thnx a lot!

Balistic
I felt great after finishing this piece. I was always scared of detailing my
speedies cause they loose energy some time...This time it did work out.
So I'm really happy. And thnx for the crits!

Cheers!
