so i've gotten my friest freelance graphic design job (yay!). the guy i'm working for has given me a general idea of what he wants, and it seems pretty simple to me, but now i just gotta figure out how to do it. the problem is i dont know any really good flash tutorial sites or where to get help. i have a basic knowledge of flash, but here is what i need to do:

i need to make a empty boxes. each box has a drag down menu which you click on and select 1 of 3 options (a, b or c). once the user has selected an option for each box, there needs to be a submit button which will send the information somewhere (to an email adress preferably). so basicly the person can put together different set-ups, (b,b,a a,c,b c,c,a for example)

this seems simple enough but i'm just not sure where to look. if anyone could point me in the right direction (tell me what i need to study up on to do this) or better yet point me to a website with a tutorial which will tell me how to do this.

i would REALLY appretiate a some help fast. i'm going back to the guy on friday morning and i need to show him that i know how to do the basic setup. if i can get somethign put together by then i'll be making some money this summer Smile

thanks

Try "flash tutorials" in Google or some other search engine.

Basically your client wants a "Mail to" form field. Very simple in concept and easily implemented with CGI, PHP, ASP or CDONTs. Flash shouldn't be a big deal, so check here:

Try googling for email+form+flash

From what I've read here you're going to have to ensure the server supports the format your Flash communicates with, so make that determination first. PHP? CDONTS? ASP? Find out what the server supports.

You know, I was thinking: If it's just a basic email form field, why even use Flash? There's nothing wrong with Flash, but the availability of this sort of thing in other technologies far outweighs Flash.

Jus' wonderin'

thank you sooo much for the help. i've been fooling aroudn with this a bit and i'm making progress, but still having some problems.
i've made 3 "accordions", which allow you to shuffle thru the different choices for each part. the part i'm stuck at is once you've selected the set up you want, how to gather that information and connect it to a submit button, so when you click the submit button flash "harvests" the informaion and sends it somewhere.
i dont know exactly how he wants me to send the info, whether its php or xml or whatever, but i'm really not very experianced with that stuff so i just want to find the simplest way to do it for now.

if there is a way for me to click the submit button, and flash to open my mail program (like a "mailto" link in HTML), with the chosen combination in the subject or body of the email, that would be good for now. any tips on how to do this?

i'm meeting my client tomorrow and hopefully i will have more specifics.
thanks again for the help, really appretiated.

How much actionscript do you know? I'll drop in here to check back if you need any help / troubleshooting, I'm fairly fluent with actionscript.
