If you'll excuse me for a moment, I have a general question relating to your applicant search from the stand point of possibely one day being what you're looking for; is it common for people to be proffessionally skilled in both 3d modeling/animation and in mattepainting- style concept design?
When I was looking through your requirements and they seemed broad. I have already been wondering if I should supplement my traditional trainings with some 3d. I guess few people can afford to be specialists in this day and age. |

It is not common to be professionally skilled in both 3d modelling/animation and mattepainting/concept design but many artists are starting with pencil drawings and then learn to paint digitally and after that they decide to learn 3D.
To get a job in the game industry you have the best chances with good skills in all mentioned requirements. Sometimes it is ok to have good skills in 50% of this requirements and the willingness to learn the rest but it is better to master as much as possible.

Yep, obviously it's good to know a lot about the different tools and understand how different assets are created.
But on bigger projects you'll likely specialise anyway so it's most important to be really good at some area of graphics development IMO. |
