I just started using soft pastels (been a little more than a month now..) so tell me what you think of it =)
A still life I did with soft pastel awhile ago..
I had a photo reference for this, it is a mask from Nepal..
I would appreciete some critiques because I have no put any fixatives(although I don't want to cuz its gonna destroy the entire mood..) I can still work on it. |

They look pretty good. It's hard to really point out any problems for me because the pictures aren't that big.
I haven't used fixatives much. How does a fixitive spray effect pastels? I sprayed a workable fixitive down a charcoal piece of mine recently and it didn't change the look of it to me. I just noticed a rough feel on it when I touched the paper. |

fixatives ruin the soft pastel colors. It darkens and all the light details just vanishes. |

heres another work i did today, I combined two photographs and I used a lot of the background paper color, blue.

I also used this still life with blue color paper, I really like how pastel give off this kind of texture and also a bit of oil-ish texture too.

this last one is very good. The color of the paper is used to good effect. |
