I'm 19, I've only had four years of practice and I'm having to try realism for a college application.
Does ANYONE know what kind of stuff they'd like to see? I'm trying to apply for something called Animatronics Design.
Now, realism itself didn't seem THAT hard, I just need a little more practice. But what do these people in art schools generally like to see? Could anyone give me some pointers?
I'm sorry if this question is vague. |

While I can't offer any advice from personal experience, someone on these forums who seemed to be in the know offered me the following:
"Any medium is accepted. They're looking for potential and intelligence in your work - either from an idea or a design standpoint [or both]. For illustration they ask for a lot of life drawing to be in your portfolio but I found that people get in with a wide variety of work. The easiest and maybe best thing to do is contact the school admissions counselor and ask them to view your work online or by email. They typically give good and quick feedback and it will let you know where you stand. Good luck.
"
I reccomend life drawing, even though I haven't been able to do any myself. All of my drawing practice comes from my loomis and hogarth books, which I've been working from regularly for a bit now. I'm hoping it will be enough. |

Thanks! That helps. =D
My school admission person - I contacted someone who had knowledge about the admissions over the phone - only said I had to bring a wide variety of work. It helped, I suppose, but I thought I was missing something when going over things in my head.
I saw the books you were speaking of in those links Sumaleth is collecting on here... I'll go and take a look.
Thanks again! |
