Head Close up:

Yeah, im practicing character illustration, and one of my Heroquest chars is a Huntress with a pack of attack poodles Cool ... so I'm trying to computer color the pencil work I did. So far, only the head is considered finished for me, there is a lot to work on.

I suck at backgrounds... are there any ideas from you all? Should I continue the mellow color scheme, or go warm with the background? Paintovers are definately welcome.

Just noticed that I kind of ingored the ear... ill fix that later.

I also have trouble with dramatic lighting. I tend to create ambient light, which shows all the detail. What sort of lighting would be good? She is in a forest...

Any sort of help would be good. I'm trying to improve my illustration skills.

Btw, i have photoshop 6.

Thanks all!

It seems to me that her eyes have different sizes. If i were you i'd go with the the size of her left eye and correct her right eye apropriately.

As your lighting problem, I can't help you, I do exsactly the same "mistake"

I can't give you any hints on how to do it in ps6, but...

If she is in a forest, maybe you should play with sharp, greenish shadows, implying that the sun filters through a canopy of leaves.
Warm or cold greens are a matter of setting rather than oppinion. Cold greens makes the picture look like your character roams icy, northern forests. Subsequently Warm greens imply warmer weather.

Perhaps even tone the whole picture in more green shades.
As it is she looks like she stands in a glade under glaring sun.

- But that might be what you want. If so, she looks good. Just shade and shadow the background trees.

Hope this helps some,
/Bryn

I'd suggest adding some green to the white part of her top. I think that would just blend her costume together well.

For forest lighting try adding some harsher yellow light coming from up top and an angle, with some shadows of foliage on her.

good work so far, i like how u've done her eyes. they're hard Wink. nice pose too.perhaps do some folds on the little cloth falling to the ground? it just seems as if u shortened it while her leg is on the rock, which should distrub the cloth. her chest seems a bit crooked. dono wat though. and the furthest arm looks a bit... deformed. its not really aligned.

good work! i like her face Very Happy
