Hey, I finally did something for the 'gaming industry'. Lotsa fun - nice change from ad storyboards, that's for sure. Game's called Mortyr II.

Hey Mark. Nice to see you back.
I really dig your illustration technique. It seems old school and tight, yet loose and full of energetic strokes. The trademarks of an experienced guy in my oppinion.
I like the commando and his pose, however I would have liked to see more grit and dirt, and a more desaturated look. Perhaps that's because I recently saw Band of Brothers, and that I'm tainted by it....I dunno. Perhaps the colour scheme is a part of what lends the illustration it's retro look?
How about art direction? How much interchange of oppinion -and how much control did you have regarding these issues?

Hey, guys, thank you.
Sukhoi, that look you talk about certainly is effective in print & film. Never occured to me actually. I supposed I am biased in the sense that I'm a fan of old time illustration. Hopefully I'll be doing more of this kind of work, as I think my views will change , the more experience I get with this kind of illustration (mostly do boards ). As far as art direction, I was given a pretty free hand as the folks, although understanding, had little experience working with illustration. Kind of a learning experience for both of us, as I had no experience of their business. |

Woah, Mark, long time no see. Looks like you've been busy! I love this piece.
It's nice to see well-rendered crisp work like this out of Painter. |

haha cool, mortyr was made by polish guys as I remember
pretty dramatic and dynamic, also like the camera angle and the shot itself.
What I dont like hee is the number of colors U used, imho to many it looks a bit 'overcolored' ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Thanks ceenda. Yeah, I haven't really felt like posting anything for a while. Hafta get back on the horse.
Yes, that's right tiger, it was developed in Poland although those weren't the guys I was dealing with. It's my understanding that this packaging is for North America only. I think I understand what your saying about too many colours, although I think the only one I'd really think about touching up is the gun. Maybe with more experience with 'finished art' I'll learn to keep it simpler. |
