Hey all. Just wondering what styles people tend to prefer to work with and look at...... Not on a case per case basis..but in general. Manga style, Painterly, burn-and-smudge-mud-o-rama, etc ?
Thanks.

I like em all, there are parts of all of them that I really like. Lately I've been leaning toward manga/comic style a lot, which has been influencing me a bit, but I still like the other forms a lot.
But I don't like blurry pics. I think that's the one thing I don't like. I really like sharp ones. So smudgin is ok, but just as long as it's not smudged so much that it's blurred.
You didn't say what style you preffered (sp?)
Lemur? Well?

Oops. Guess I didn't. Hehe.
Well, I'd have to say that I'm *really* partial to painterly looking work. Not even encessarily renaissance quiality studies or anything....I just like the texturing and color that comes w/ paint.

I'm primarily interested in painterly, photorealistic, and conceptual art styles, but I don't mind a sideways glance at just about any form of art so long as it set of that "mmmm" feeling in my brain.

Painterly is good. I also like photographical-type use of blurs: focus etc, as seen in, for example, the work of Dave Mckean. As long as it's not the entire pic that's blurry.

Hey Lemur, if I could put mud in my computer and paint with it I would. Or some of those metalic oil paints, those are cool. I guess I don't really have a prefered style... I just slap things down and if it becomes anything then... there it is I guess. Hey, I dyed my hair blue yesterday. But it came out green and blue. Like a cosmic rainbow brite thing going on. I don't know if I like it, but I can't bleach it again and fix it so I guess I have to live with it. Anyway, I have to go I'll catch u later. |

Jess, this is what you should do:
Take a polaroid of your hair from above, scan that pic in, sign your name, and call it a work of art
Seriously though, I'm going to dye my hair blue as well (or try )
Now, onto the topic at hand: I have been playing around with just about every type of medium there is. Pencil, ink, comic book style, manga, abstract painting (not smudging, mind you), and getting as natural look as I can. That about sums it up. I try to be as innovative as possible...
I say, go with the first thing that pops in your mind. Don't think about whether or not it will be accepted by everyone else, just go with it. You never know what you'll end up with....

I tend to like a painterly look for my own stuff, but I like seeing all kinds of styles. I DO like to see some texture, though, regardless of the style used.
Oh, and my hair's already blue. :P
