Intrigued by Hash's new radiosity implementation in Animation:Master, I decided to have a whack at re-lighting a scene I originally modeled almost six years ago. I think the original was one of the very first things I ever posted here at Sijun. Anyway, here's the new version:

Thanks for looking. Pull up a chair . . .

Always enjoyed your 3D work so it's good to see you working in those dimensions again. Smile

Love the pic too.

Wow, they finally got radiosity. In 2005 Very Happy

I've used the '98 version mostly. Maybe '01 as well. Damn they must have crashed couple of times per hour.

A nice image. I actually downloaded some of your procedural shaders years ago at my friend's place. I thought "goddamn this guy's a genius". I didn't even have a net connection at home. It was a revolution to realize that other artists really existed, I only knew janne back then.. Him and you, my first cg-idols Very Happy Those were the days.

Thanks Suma.

Mikko: and it only took them three tries at radiosity before they got something that worked Smile I give them credit though, this is a damned-nice implemenation of photon mapping and final gathering. The downside is that other aspects of the renderer are still dicey (antialiasing), so this thing took about 12 hours to render, after the 15-second radiosity calc.

You obviously know your stuff Brian!

Hella nice render. Now go put it to use on some grand and actionpacked vision including dead cities, exoskeletons and radioactive puddles.....

Thanks guys!

Sukhoi: pretend it's not sunlight, but rather a 5MT tritium-boosted airburst at 4000'.

Wow, looks awesome! Nice work Brian.

Hehe, I remember the lengths you used to go to in order to simulate radiosity a few years back. Soft lights subtly put around to simulate bounced light etc.

I like the 'bloom' effect as well.

Agree with Odds, its way better than the original!

Especially the comparatively extensive darker parts are giving a better background now to push the highlights!

definetly a huge difference. most cg stuff looks plastic, this you can almost smell the air.
