Hi all, Discovered art and painting late in life, only about a year ago and it's amazing what a boost on quality of life it is once you start to see form, texture, value and colour around you everyday. I am a beginner and a hobbyist but I strive to learn more and will probably paint till I drop
Here's a hobby painting of Milo, a young vampire with boyish charms. Done with mouse. Hope to get a tablet soon. I am fiddling with his face and working my way downwards now. Your input is most welcomed.
I take critique really well and do listen. One mate thought the lighting could be more aggressive. He probably has a good point too.
Almost forgot, credit where credit is due. It's a hommage to Caldwell.

I like the expression on his face, its hard to describe, kinda like in between a lot of different emotions, which is interesting.
a few tips: try to work on it more as a whole before zooming in on details seperatly, if you continue like this it will look like a bunch of different paintings drawn together if you know what I mean.
Also try not to go for the seemingly "easy" pose, you avoid issues like overlapping and perspective stuff but by doing so you make it harder for yourself to create depth, so in the end it will be much harder to make it look real.
My advice is for your next piece try to make the entire character in outlines first (actually start with a stick figure, then outlines), make him take the hardest pose you can think of and try to not get into the details for as long as you can, I promise you it will pay off. Oh and decide where the light is coming from, its very important to have a consistant light source.
Hope I helped,

I guess you could say he could use some straightening out but overall he looks great. I am loving that background |

Am trying to unstiffing him which is partly successful, but I am still at it. Kind of lost the anxious expression of his face since he's more "I'm too cool to care now". Have to look into it. Also see a problem at the midsection on his left and the arm doesn't read nor look correct but out of time for now. Work continues.
Painting semi-humans is by far the hardest thing I've ever done. Should go back to cubes and elipses awhile haha.
Thank you for the input PuC and Templa. I will try your method starting with the next painting PuC. Good stuff and thanks kindly.
