Here it is guys. The latest website. I drew from many things you have said to me in my trials to make a good site. So here is my good college effort. Let me know what you think.

Nice site.
I particularly like the photo of the burning stuff on the custom page. |

"Lose the Flash."
Thats interesting considering the entire site is flash.
I think, since there is a lack of elaboration here, that the flash is not bad -- the worst thing that can happen with flash is a bogged down framerate (which im not getting) or just unintuitive/slow navigation. Neither of which im really experiencing.
That said, it isnt the strongest design -- but it is easy to navigate and the information is presented clearly so as a site it succeeds in that regard.
I think there are easy things you can do to improve the design of it, for instance: the grey boxes around the text (in process section for example) should form a uniform border around the text. I see that you are trying to make all of the boxes the same size, but its at the cost of making the text look uneven in the boxes. You can arrange them differently so it doesnt matter that they are not the same size--put one closer to the top and the other closer to the bottom. That is the main thing that is bothering me in most sections (text and image needs a thicker, more uniform border in those grey boxes). Other little things too like the on "about" section, that text box should probably come down another 2 or 3 pixels so that it aligns with that wall behind it instead of leaving a little nub between the text box and the dark space. Little things like that add up and make the site look sloppy.
I think you may need to forget that you are using flash for a time and just consider design -- flash is an easy way to give a site "movement" but the flash-aesthetic is getting tiresome, good design however never does. |
