very bright, nkummel. in fact, the background is so brilliantly saturated, that I think it detracts a bit from your main subject. That warring between the background and foreground hurts the eyes. I recommend using your brightest colors a bit more selectively - rank the importance of visual elements in your piece and apply emphasis accordingly - and that will help you achieve greater visual impact.
I do really like the movement and brightness of the piece - it captures a sense of music. Well done. I have to say, bassoons are a bit weird. I once did a comissioned drawing of a jazz basoonist. It seemed odd the whole time I was doing it.
