hi folks,
long time since posting on this site.
This is a matte painting I had to do at work. couple of photos from the net ans th rest was done by me.
The image is of stromatolites, living organisms that have been around since the dawn of time (what the image is trying to depict -> early life)
I'm more of a 3d artist so any c&C would be appreciated

Hey syzygy.
Nice going.
I would say that yui tried to cram in a little to much colour, the purple in particular. I like to use many colours as well, but as far as mattes go I think one should pull back on the colour a little, so it get's a little more uniform.
I think that the fog on the left is a little excessive aswell. It seems that the cliffs on the left are closer to the viewer and it would make sense if the fog wasn't nearly as dense in that area.
Keep it up.

hey guys,
really appreciate the replies.
I'm hearing you on the fog, I couldn't really think of how to blend the foreground into the mountains so i basically cheated and made it foggy. (should have just turned in a white canvas - it was REALLLY foggy )
I guess that is something I'm going to have to practice.
when I was painting it I was having so much fun that i just kept on going with the colours
cheers,
russ |
