so this one startet as a speedy. I found a sniper image and i really wanted to know if i could simplify the image. I tried to get the helmet right and i liked how it turned out. So i worked on. And finished this one in about 3 hours or so. I spent more time in thinking befor drawing. Hope you like it

awesome simplification, see. obviously the values are more towards the realism side than the stylistic/dramatic side. and i think you know how to make the values dramatic... so, i'd suggest doing that. see what happens.
keep up the great work.

Awesome study object, and great result.

To me though, the squinting eye feels a bit "naked", like it's missing wrinkles either in the corner of the eyelid or shade over the eyelid. Or maybe a darker shade between the eye and the nose. Or eyelashes maybe? Heh, I dunno really but somehow it feels "naked" to me.

(I'm well aware that the ref might look exactly like this, I'm just saying.)

This piece is fantastic. I loaded it three times just to check it out again. The first few times I was overwhelmed by all the details. If this is the simplified version, I wonder what the original looks like.

That having been said, it looks like there is a lot of bright lighting comeing from the top, on the follage/material on the helmet and on the weapon. Wouldn't it cast a bit more of a shadow on the guy?

Perhaps not, and the photo might have shown some. But with that bright of light across the whole face it looks just a bit flat.

Great work!

thanks for your comments. Very Happy

I think its all about large painting and texturing to"fool" the eye. I only detailed a few parts and left more unfinished. I wanted a drawn look, not that almost perfect photorealistic art.
Thanks for the good suggestions!

@tttia_: I tried different lighting-situations but remained by a frontal light almost like in the ref.

@ jo: waahh, eyes. its sooo hard doing them right. I always start doing mouth, nose .. but fail a hundred times doing good looking eyes. But the longer i look at the squinting eye the more i have to agree with you.

@odds: Thx. Im not soo good in doing stylistic stuff. I like realistic, loosy drawn images. Wink

see u
