This is a roughed (pre coloured) box art for Crocodile Games.
My main problem is to the colouring - I've hit a mental block.
It's supposed to be an alternitive pre ancient egypt where the gods and their children walk the earth.
These are the children of Sebek (for a box of miniatures).
The problem I'm having is to the colouring of this piece.
The Sebeki are a crocodile people (so greenish i suppose with a pale underbelly)
And I thought maybe an orange type sunset - the upper right of the illo is where the logo will go.
Any ideas will greatly help.
Overpaints most welcome

feral,i did this super-quick(about 20 minutes) ,and i know you wanted the sky, orange,i just felt cyan was a better contrast. plus,i blued-out the background and other crocodile-guys to make the guy in front the main focus.
was a great value painting for me to color!

I usually do it grayscale then colour.
That way I can get the tonal value how I want, sometimes colour blinds you - if you know what I mean.
I like the blue on the main sebeki, but I'll need to link in the others more as well.

yeah, i've been concentrating on doing greyscale like that as well, it helps alot too since I'm a lil red/green colorblind. _________________ .::astrochimp.net::. |

Ok heres a quick colour test, sorry its a bit rough, but it's just a test.
I tried it with a blue sky, but the logo disapears at distance - and the client wasn't that happy
C&C welcome as are over paints.

Heres the logo.
Will sit in the upper right hand corner of the illo with text below.
But obviously larger than it is here. (without the white)
I'm also running out of time, so I may just have to go with what I've got

Pretty neat stuff here Feral and as you asked for overpaints I had to do some color tests for you, hope you are ok with it and that I am not to late.
If I were you I would experiment a little bit more with the colors like maybe 20 small quick thumbnails or something to retrieve what u are looking for.
My experiments are some quick ones and with a small spectrum and I did exaggerate the colors a bit to get that vibrant glow, sometimes that works and sometimes not, me still experimenting with that.
I did alter your drawing cause I couldn't make that croc in the back to work with the scenery, maybe u need 3 crocs?
First one, warm scene and vibrant sky.
Second one, same scene but with negative shadows on the crocs and that is something I am very fund of, like cold shadows which works perfectlly in a warm orange scene.
Thrid one, warm background and cold foreground.
Fourth one, cold background warm foreground.
ok not sure if I am helping out but I had to experiment with it a bit before I had to run to the bus. ok me gotta run for the bus now.
have a nice day.

Cheers Matthew,
Thanks for taking the time to do that.
Unfortunately the third figure is part of the brief.
I'm inclined to go with the cold foreground warm background.
As I said I've really run out of time on this one - still any ideas are good to help break a mental block
If I had more time I'd play more, but I've got to get cracking on this, so it's back to the drawing board, or at least the wacom
Cheers

I like the cold foreground, warm background set, it looks like it's sunrise and they're going to raid a village or something, fits with the aggressive theme. Also watmough's overpaint had a "old" feeling that could be nice, with the watered colors in the background, reminding you that this is set in the ancient times.
Just some ideas in case they can help you =) _________________ "Ever forward, my darling wind." -Master Yuppa
