well, after all that rambling in the digiart discussion forum, look what I made today:
:\
Oh well. I do blame Neal Stephenson's Baroque cycle for putting these kinds of scenes in my head though.
oh yea
here's a couple of preliminary sketches for colour and composition:

think those original compositions are more interesting, if technically more difficult.
I think if you're going to do this sorto f thing, I'd pic kyour areas of interest a bit more. I think going with the original composition, you could have put quite a bit more time in the render of the characters, and roughed out a background, but keeping it nebulous to some degree. That in the end would have been a more interesting work.
Last, I think your color choices are a little dry. You might really just want to push the colors next time, just ignor if it looks 'right' or not, and really push the colors. Just for exercise.
pretty nice, the movement and action are pretty strong here. _________________ http://kontinue.com/coldkodiak/ |

Hey, thanks!
I did quite like the more dramatic perspective of the earlier sketch myself, but I wanted a backlight on the attacker to emphasize the "stopped in time" effect, so I wound up bringing the viewpoint down. I wish I could've had both but I don't see how in this case. As for the colours, I'm sort of trying to get away from using strong colour contrasts since that's sort of what I always do, and I seem to have gotten stuck in a certain colour scheme too much... (even here, there's that purple and then green...) I did notice though that slightly warmer, more saturated colours would look quite nice here.
Thanks for the pointers, I mean to do another picture today so I'll keep those issues in mind. |
