Hehe lets just keep in mind this was the raving rant of some gaming-site-geek and not an academic study... estimated amount of girls playing FPS is still 2% according to SERIOUS studies on this subject matter.
All women on the web? Sure. More women than men playing counter-strike? Not in a million years.

I play Quake 3, Unreal, EQ, Sims, Soldier of Fortune, Age of the Empire 2, WarCraft 2, StarCraft, Gabrials Knights, UO, and tons others... And I there are about 10-20 other girls/women that come in a play where I do, but most of the time I'm the only female in there with 12 guys. |

I play UT, and so many people use "femal" characters, it's not like I can tell if they're really female or not. Not that it matters... they all gib the same.

Could be that they're trying to keep the gender status quo, until the 'real' women play online more often.. ah who knows. |

Hahahaha what struck me as the most funny was the female bots in q3a who taunt you when they win. It pretty much reflects the state-of-mind of the MALE programmers who made them |

I worked for a game company for a short while that actually made games geared towards women and childern. I think I remember seeing a chart that said that less than 20% of the gaming market is women. If companies start making more games that are for both guys and gals then I could see more women playing games. But realistically speaking guys will always have a more dominant number in games. (Unless game companies stop making FPS and startegy games and start making more "Cosmopolitan Make-over" games. |

Lets face it, for some evolutionary reason, women just aren't as attracted to gunbattles as men are. |

Chapel, I'm not flaming you or anything, but 'cosmopolitan makeover'? If I saw a game like that, I'd have to take it and set fire to it. "...burn spawn of Satan..." Then I'd do a little war dance. |

I've tried to get my gf into UT, but she doesn't like 'all the violence'. She'd much rather play out all her sicko fantasies on the 'Sims'.. she likes to kill off guys with the pool, and some women have gone through like 12 husbands... her Sim's neighborhood is a regular Jerry Springer show. |

Hum... Maybe this would be a use for the make-up gun introduced in the Simpsons... You know, the one that you fire into a womans face, supposedly getting her makeup done in a flash.
"You set it to slut!"
Seriously, though, I don't see how these games with an emphasis on make-up and dating could ever really catch on. Maybe it's just my limited male brain, but isn't a big part of the attraction of games being able to do somethign you couldn't in real life?
So if mindless carnage isn't what catches the potential female players fancy, perhaps something a little more intellectually challenging would do the trick?

(Define Word "women" := "the majority of women" )
Women don't know what they want, how should we know?
No seriously, there are games women like to play.. all this cutie stuff.. jump'n'run, and strategy sometimes.
Ego shooters, John Woo Movies, arm wrestling.. those are things that men just like more than women

Oh yeah women like to battle straight to other people faces... right. If you had a game like Get Revenge on B/F's new Chick... oh yeah that would sell. Women like to have to think out stratigically. That's why many play the Sims or games that take loner than the shoot em up games. And yes the girls do make really retarded sounds... |

I am not a woman, nor do I disagree to anything you guys said, much anyways.
I really do not think you have the right to say
"girls like to play the cutie stuff"
"girls dont like the violent-type games" or even
"girls would rather play games that would involve in killing off their boyfriend's new girlfriends".
Personally I find that I think very differently from most 'men' or 'teenager' or whichever you would call a 14 yearold and if you think about it, you can't really say that "all women are the same" because all men aren't the same, and to think about it, NO ONE IS THE SAME.... how many of you computer freeks (dont mean to insult anyone, i am one myself) wish to find your soulmate, and play games all day together, that sorta stuff? and after a while you realise it aint gonna happen? IT COULD! and there is a damn big chance it could, many people think alike, act alike and well.. like alike stuff (doesn't make any sense? bah!)
Well I'm gonna make this post shorter then it could be... There are plenty of women in the gaming industry and even in the programming industry, not to say anything about women who play FPS games... (hmm i forgot what the point of this post was by now so bear with me) umm... I think what i'm trying to say is that you cant judge a gender by an assumption that girls dont enjoy bloody killing games cause i bet plenty do (maybe not as many as men... but many men DONT enjoy them, ever think about that?)
okay I've gotten into a loop hole here so i'll stop

Shadow : "that you cant judge a gender"
Fact is, you can. There are certain evolutional differences between man and woman and they DO influence behaviour.
No, a judgement based on gender-characteristics wont be 100% accurate, but it IS a legitimate means of observation.
To think that the only differences between man and woman lay on the outside is shallow... |

As I recall, John Carmack (lead programmer and co-founder of iD software) deathmatches his wife to be.... er wife. whatever they are now.
Yes, I stalk him.

I guess what i ment is that many people act and think differently...
Maybe a large group of women made a huge cult and now have some underground base where they all play in huge gory FPS lan parties 24/7?

or the reason they use female modells in UT, is that they are smaller, and harder to hit.. !? |

Nah, its because if your a guy and you had to spend all day making a model for a game.. might as well have boobies.
(I'm not really sexist.) |

I am of the FEMALE sex thank you very much.
No but really that's what i see most of the female gamers play... yes there are the few that play the shot-em-up games and enjoy it (including myself). But most of the time those games are played by guy players.

the majority of girl players i know that play games (including all games on all platforms) in varying of genres.. but theres one KEY ingredient to it..
and just like the iMAC.. yes.. every game that i know girls play.. have some sort of CUTE character or enviroment.. (theres something wit girls buying products based soley on being cute.. :P maybe its there fashion sence.. who knows..)
anyways.. im talking about games like mario world for the n64.. alot of girls play that.. they also play the non voilence type sims like "The sims".. and simcity..
and if they wanna race.. they play mario cart like games.. not need for speed or whatnot :P.. and at the arcades they are all surrounding the bubble booble and those kinda stragegy type games.. puzzle fighter too.. i remeber alot of girls played at the arcades..
so i take it violence.. or violent games.. the guys like.. and girls are more into the cute and strategic type games (stragety without violence) haha |

To think that personalities and behaviour are limited by the fact that you have either a penis or a vagina is shallow.
I know I shouldn't preach to others how to live their lives, but whenever generalizations occur, discrimination and suffering are bound to follow. |

but personality and behavior are heavily influenced by those factors...
.. needless to say that the sex organs are not the only differences that exist between men and women..
