They look so surreal that they almost look like matte paintings from a movie instead of something that exists in real life! |

These are great. They remind me a lot of Naoya Hatakeyama's work. Too bad I can't find a decent link to any of his work. _________________ QED, sort of. |

Of course it's real, this is the biggest anti-flooding system in the world, and where else would you find it except Tokyo? It's also a tourist attraction between flood seasons. Very cool. |

stahlberg, you think so? how can you be sure?
i've been looking at these images for awhile now. i think the first 3 images in the gallery look real fishy.
also, is the fact that when i search for g-cans all i get is bloggers quoting other bloggers. if it's really the largest of it's kind, and has been in the works for 12 years, i think i would be able to find a more credible site talking about it in detail.
this is a screen shot of http://www.g-cans.jp/photo/11.html with a quicktime viewer window on top, found here: http://www.g-cans.jp/facility/panorama.html
it's interesting to look at the differences in the 2.

Hm... well, why would it be a hoax? It's not bold enough to be fun to get away with...
Secondly, imo these are real, not painted or 3d in any way. Not even photo-retouching, collage or whatever. Possibly VERY large scale models, but I don't think so, and why would anyone go to so much trouble for such a useless hoax? It could be some other huge structures, not "G-Cans", but again, what a lame hoax that would be...
Thirdly, it all has the ring of truth to it. Flooding in Tokyo, controlled by a newfangled system that's the biggest in the world... japanese architecture is very advanced, and they're competitive enough to go for 'biggest in the world' just for the hell of it... And they'd obviously be using it as a tourist attraction too, if they could. Oh well. No one here from Tokyo who can set us straight? |

Whether or not they are real or not, they are a useful resource
but further: Technology-wise does anyone want to put anything past the Japanese?

Industrial tech always looks like a futuristic wonderland. Browse any modern manufacturing plant and there's all sorts of cool tech flying around. A lot of plants offer tours especially if they've got the latest and greatest to show off. _________________ HEY YOU! We're looking for a few good pixel artists |
