Thanks for having a look. Feel free to follow this link to the offical contest thread: http://www.eatpoo.com/phpBB2/postin...itpost&p=512841

i hope some of you can enter, should be loads of fun! the following was posted by adigra at eatpoo:

Hi people!

In collaboration with the fine administrators and moderators of eatpoo forums I have decided to put forth a contest which will hopefully benefit all of the entrants and the forum as a whole. The contest is meant to be challenging but also fun so I have devised a set of rules and guidelines I believe to be fair and open for everyone.

I will serve as the art director of this contest with help from selected moderators who will make it all run as smoothly as possible.

The contest will be divided into two rounds. First round will decide 12 winners for the spots on the eatpoo calendar, who will also proceed into the second round. First round will be judged by the eatpoo team of contest directors including myself and the moderators.

The second round will decide the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners who will be awarded our grand prizes. The second round will be judged by a panel of special judges who are all established professionals with decades of experience in their respective fields.

No moderators who enter the contest themselves will be allowed into the judging process.

I am really hoping that people of all skill levels and interests will enter as I believe the experience alone will be very educational and fun. Those not yet at the professional level will benefit from being introduced to industry standards and procedures. And those of higher skill level will definitely benefit from having their work seen and judged by some very highly respected editors and artists.

I think this to be a unique opportunity and I believe eatpoo will live up to it.

And with that I present to you the eatpoo forums Ultimate Cover Contest:

Guidelines:

A contest to design and illustrate an imaginary cover for a book or a comic book on the theme:

Against all odds

All interpretations in any genres and styles are accepted.

The contest will follow industry standards and will follow the established cover guidelines.

The contestants are to come up with a cover concept based on the theme and create and present three sketches with a short explanation of their ideas. The art directors of the contest will choose one of the sketches and, if appropriate, offer a suggestion or two. The final illustration is to be based on the chosen sketch.

All forms of illustrative arts are more than welcome. Drawing, painting, photography, multimedia, etc. While technical excellence is important the entries will be judged by illustration standards, meaning they will have to be appropriate to the theme.

Rules that must be followed:

The size of the entries will have to be 1 height x 2/3 width. If the height is 15 than the width needs to be 10 (2/3 of 15), or 10.5x7, etc. The final images in digital form (scanned or created) are to be no smaller than 2100 x 1400 pixels, and no bigger than 4200 x 2800 (the later is the industry standard but half of that is allowed to accommodate slower computers)

The upper of the image should be done in consideration of the cover logo area. Any focal and important element of the cover should either be placed bellow the top quarter of the image or with planned overlap over the logo.

All of this should be apparent in the sketches and will be art directed in order to fit the rules specifications.

Deadlines:

The contest officially kicks off: December 19th
Three sketches are due: December 27th
The final Illustrations are due: January 23rd

The deadlines are NOT negotiable. The guest judges are donating their time out of their schedules to help us out and I will not make them wait or judge unfinished artwork.

The second round judges:

Steve Mcniven: a Marvel exclusive penciler and cover artist of Marvel Knights 4 series and currently the artist on the anticipated Ultimate Secret limited series written by Warren Ellis.

Ken Christiansen: the founder of Bad Flip Productions and a veteran of Nintendo and Disney Interactive/Buena Vista Games where he served as a concept design lead and art director.

MacKenzie Cadenhead: Marvel Comics Editor

C.B. Cebulski: Marvel Comics, Talent Coordinator, Editor (the man who offered me my job)

And as a special, optional prize I offer to promote the winners portfolio to my various contacts in the industry.

How to submit:

The sketches are to be posted in the appropriate thread accompanied by a brief (a couple of sentences) explanation of the concept and how it relates to the theme. The posted sketches are to be no bigger than 400x600 pixels in jpeg format.

The final images are to be posted in the appropriate thread only. Posted jpeg illustrations are to be no bigger than 600x900 pixels. The full size images are to be saved in PSD or Tiff formats until the judging is complete.

The winning entrants will be notified about submitting the full size images for printing, calendar and otherwise.

Other rules:

There is no limit on how many illustrations can be submitted; however, each entry will have to have its own set of preliminary sketches and will be judged independently. Only one entry by a single participant is eligible for final prizes.

There might be certain changes and additions to the rules and guidelines before the kickoff date (Dec. 19th) as we bring more things into shape but I wanted to give you all a head start and get you all informed about what were up to.

Have fun!
