my impressions of most of them is that the lighting is off, which really makes some of the items look superimposed. You did a pretty nice job putting the components together cleanly, but they don't seem to fit in most cases because of light and perspective. The best of the bunch is the third one though, that's kinda cool.

I think technically this would be more 'compositing' then actual matte painting. No?

Not really what I would call 'Matte Paintings', most of the work has been done by the photographers. Some are quite interesting though...

it's photo retouching. No 'painting' is involved. Rolling Eyes

I have to disagree with you guys, this IS how matte painting is done nowdays, pure photo retouching, rule number one, use as much photos as you can... it is such a hype that everything is supposed to be painted by hand from scratch and blabla, but today we have computers and fancy digital cameras. still lots of painting involved but otherwise pretty boring but its true.

But maybe laurent-lx, should think more about atmospheric perspective and color of the shadows, in some pictures you totally removed the atmospheric perspective and it looks like things are close thant they really are (for exaple the pointy mountain in the middle of the lake/sea

and the mount doom inspired image, there's no orange or blue in the shadows at all, maybe you should think of shadows as "something covering the sun" but also can be lit somehow, by bouncing lights, for exaple, a winter evening in a town where there are orange lights, the snow is orange, and the shadows are really really blue if there's no clouds...

anyways keep it up bro!

J

Basically the point of Matte painting is to add realistic components to photographs or settings. Used mostly in movies etc...

I agree with everyone else, but just wanted to add that the last image looks a little to fimiliar.

and this one that tiger1313 did

I suppose they both could have used the same original picture as reference etc..
