Don't Hate Me Because I'm Digital
Wired.com; November 4, 2004

Kaya is ravishing. She has full lips, long lashes, and a slightly upturned nose. Her expression radiates confidence and power, and her smooth skin is well scrubbed and dotted with freckles. But she doesn't have much of a body. At all. In fact, she exists only from the neck up. Kaya is a CG model, a 48,200-polygon beauty created by an artist in So Paulo, Brazil. And she's sure to be a finalist in the Miss Digital World beauty pageant.

The man behind the event is Franz Cerami, an Italian promoter who's trying to start the world's first CG talent agency. His dream is to manage a bevy of virtual beauties, posing and costuming them for pinup calendars, videogames, ads, and movies. The benefits of digital models are obvious - they never age, never have bad hair days, and can be on location in Tokyo, Paris, and Hollywood simultaneously.

Gort, that article is Copyright, just as people's art is.
You should not republish it as you did, as that is a blatent Copyright Infringement, not to mention you did not even source cite where you got the information from. That is just as disrespectful of Copyright as if you printed someone's art without telling who did the piece...

You are always allowed to link to news articles, but instead of copying part of the article, you should merely summarize what it is about in your own words.

If we as artists do not stand up for Copyright regarding the works of others, who will stand up to protect OUR Copyright???

I think you might be a little overly aggressive on this one sweetums.

He only quoted the intro to the article. That's well within his rights of fair use. News.google.com does the same thing. All he's doing is driving traffic to wired.com and increasing their ad revenue.

Thanks Brian - you are correct in your comment.

Sweetums - let's say I did place the whole article there; arguably you could still be wrong - especially if there was an MLA standards compliance for Works Cited. Technically it may not even need to be standards compliant if the source is noted in an obvious form. Furthermore I've made no attempt to pass this information off as my own or use it for commercial purposes. Super chill.

Just go to Wired.com and enjoy the story.

I saw one of those Icons books (published by Taschen) for "DIGITAL BEAUTIES" in Barnes and Noble the other day.

Most of them were just crudely modeled blondes either nude or in skimpy lingerie. They looked like they were rendered with Notepad.

Still looked more realistic than any of the girls in Playboy past 1986, though.

I wonder if anyone still has a copy of FHM (UK) with Gale Porter on the front cover. Basically, this was back in the days when magizine editors "sort of" knew how to use Photoshop. Anyway, it was one of the worst photoshop jobs ever. I'd love to see it again for a laugh.

That seems like it would be a good idea, if they could get the models to look like real people. They still look CG. I wouldn't want to flip through a magazine of clothing and see a bunch of computer women modeling them. That would just be creepy.
