Hello Everyone,
This is my first art post on here, however I'm a very very long time lurker. Probably since at least 1999 if not more. My background is 3D related, with a lot of texture painting, but full 2D paintings I do rather rarely.
I'm also a bit nervous and intimidated posting this image here where some amazing artists post, particularly Craig Mullins, but I gotta start somewhere! I mention Craig because the image is on the same subject matter that he's done some fantastic work on, namely the computer game Marathon. I don't even feel in the same class, so with that in mind...here it goes...
The Marathon is a colony ship in the future, created by the United Earth Space Government. It was carved out of one of Mars's moons, Deimos. So essentially, it's a very large rock. Clearly, there was little reference. The image linked is about half the rez, so there's more detail at full rez, but I still think I worked on it at far too low a resolution..just 2048x2048. Your comments and suggestions will be very helpful, and my skin is pretty thick . Thanks for looking.

most of all it lacks depth, and I can see where your texturing background came into play. The ship seems too dark to me, tohugh I've yet to play marathon. |

That's a great observation. I think the problem is the windows/lights..they're all the same size as they twist and wrap around the planetoid, and they really shouldn't. Thanks for that! |
