Hi there,

I'm just a lowly writer that is looking to speak with some accomplished graffiti artists about their tradecraft, as I don't actually know any myself. This is for a story I'm doing for my campus newspaper, and in the article I would like to present graffiti as legitimate artwork rather than the crude vandalism it is usually associated with. If you're an accomplished graffiti artist and are interested in talking with me about this, please drop me a line at:

[email protected]

I stress that I'm looking for artists that paint the grand murals and complex designs that bespeckle down-town cityscapes, and not just a punk with a spray can and nothing better to do. If you have photos taken of some of your work, that would also help out a lot. Thanks for reading, and I hope to hear from you.

-Kyle

I'm thrilled to see you're not promoting the inane notion that the destruction is part of the Dada-ness of it.

I taught at RMCAD with a guy who had a side business of salvaging exquisite building detail and fixtures from old Denver Victorian homes.

It was in a decent neighborhood and nobody complained about the really nice "junk" that was piled up.

Then the 'ethnic' gang members decided to start using the neighborhood for tagging.

In five years, they'd driven everone out and the city condemned two and half blocks and he lost his antique salvage business.

Can't tell you how happy I am to see someone putting that talent where it can be enjoyed.

Rolling Eyes Try to get in touch with the Bronx Museum of the Arts. Back a few years ago when Alex Campos was running it, they had a massive exhibit on graffiti artists as well as published a few books on the installation. It should be a good start for you, I'd give you a link, but google.com is just as effective as any I could give.
