For Painter 8.1

when I am drawing at 1600 x 1200 80dpi my computer is chugging and I don't know why.

system specs-

CPU = AMD ATHLON64 3200+ Processor

MEMORY = 1024 MB PC3200 400MHz DDR (Corsair XMS PRO High Performance Memory w/ Heat Spreader & LED Lights)

HDD = Western Digital 80GB 7200RPM ATA 100 8MB Special Editon

MOTHERBOARD = GigaByte GA-K8N Pro nForce3 Chipset 800FSB AGP8X

SOUND = Creative Labs SB Audigy-2 ZS 7.1

VIDEO = ATI RADEON 9800 PRO 256MB DDR AGP 8X W/ TV-OUT & DVI

is there anything I can do to speed things up with the program?

One way is to delete the pre-built brush file in the

"\programs\corel\painter8\brushes" folder.

If you havent done this before, the file could be 100MB or more in size. Most painter users delete this file after several hours of painter use.

Thanks nafa, I will try that, but how do I make new brushes if all of my brushes are gone?

I guess I just don't know how to use painter. what on earth is the "resat" function?

First, read the Sticky thread at Conceptart.org Forums' Painter 7/8 Feedback & Help forum named:

Keeping Painter 6, Painter 7, and Painter 8 Running Smoothly

Then read the Painter 8 User Guide or Help > Help Topics to learn what Resat means and how it works.

Hard copy Painter 8 User Guide:

Chapter 10 The Brush Creator, the section named Setting Well Controls

Help > Help Topics:

Contents tab > Using the Brush Creator > Setting Well Controls

Resat on the Property Bar is the same as Resaturation in the Well Controls.

Read the User Guide through from front to back, if only to become familiar with where items are located and with Painter terminology. Or, do the same with Help > Help Topics.

Refer to the User Guide or Help > Help Topics before posting questions. Then you can be more specific about things you either don't understand or things you can't find because you don't yet know the appropriate terminology.
