I'm about to buy a new computer and, believe it or not, it will be the second one I've ever had.

How do you move software from one to the other?

Say I have Photoshop CS, upgraded all the way from Photoshop 4. Do I have to buy new software? Is there some way of uninstalling it and moving it that is officially sanctioned by (in this case) Adobe? When I do install it, do I actually have to install PS 4 and upgrade it all the way up?

Ditto for Painter

urp . . . hmmmm . . .

There was time in my past when I had success with just copying stuff over, but I'm not sure if it's possble with the newer stuff - especially Photoshop CS (with activation and all).

I could be wrong, but I suspect new versions of most software are installed to replace older versions instead of upgrading to it (except for MS Windows). As such, you should be able to just install your latest version of Painter and PS in the new PC.

If you wish to be in strict accordance with the user license agreement, you should also remove the software from your old PC once you are confident that the programs are running smoothing in their new home.

Ghost is all well and good for backing up a machine so that you have a restore point..

trouble is that when you put the system from the old machine onto the new, XP/2k will have a flid and not play very well

PS will certainly complain about not being installed if you just drag from 1 machine to the other as a load of DLL's will be missing etc

JF, i'd suggest that you install everything 'clean' onto the new machine, its a pain, but the only way you know that its on properly. i re-install everytime i change computers it just gives that 'new' computer feel Smile

if you only have painter and photoshop to worry about, just put a few hours aside to install and configure Smile

if you have more than just those then make it a whole day..
